Got this while I was at the dentist a few days back.

I guess it's... sort of a self portrait...?

I kinda like how it came out, but I'm buggered if I have the first idea what to actually do with it! Any thoughts?

Rather a lot, I'm afraid. Several years of abysmal diet and virtually nonexistent dental hygiene due to severe depression have left me needing quite a bit of work.

(Being British doesn't exactly seem to have helped much.)

Part of the reason this photo exists is to illustrate - to myself if no-one else - how bad things got for me.

Some kind of hitting bottom to start recovery psychobullshit I guess...

The tooth was already broken prior to the extraction, so it wasn't possible to get a good enough grip for it to come out in one piece. The part on the left is the root, and the part on the right is the part that snapped off partway through.

The little stringy bits are the result of a previous (failed) root canal treatment.

look at the scale of the pliers. If thats a finger, then they're comically huge. Like bolt cutter sized.

It looks fine as is, I don't think there's much else you can do to it. It's not like you can really re-compose the shot beyond a crop and I can't imagine a crop that'd improve it right now.

You've got parallel lines with the metal tools, repeating elements with the teeth, and good contrast wit the soft white background and dark metal tools and red bloody teeth.

Anyway, "I'm buggered if I have the first idea what to actually do with it" is the feeling you should overcome when taking the photo, not afterward. It's harder afterward.

Apologies - that was a little vague on my part. I meant not knowing what to do with it in terms of posting online, printing, who the hell even wants to see it sort of thing. Personally, I'm happy with the composition, processing etc.

Those aren't teeth. They're fingers. And you can clearly see the nail on the one on the right.
Vein and arteries and everything are still attatched.

Yea but look at the size of the pliers. They would have to be an aborted babies fingers to be that small. I think the fingernail we are seeing is just false pattern recognition.

if you read the thread OP has an explanation for all of it. not actually a nail, just a trick of the lighting and blood, and the "arteries" are just the dentin plugs from a previous root canal
