The Sony IMX269 is a 20MP 4/3 sensor that can be had cheap enough that Yi is selling the Y1m1 with it for $280 as a two lens kit.
We would be able to use much simpler optics. No need for a serious lens mount; no need for an lcd; no need for all of the programming needed for a real user interface; no need for a fast processor; no need for a compact body.
Optics could just be something like an f/8 fixed prime lens, so long as it’s sharp enough to feed the sensor at macro distances.
There wouldn’t be a huge market for it, obviously, but I think it would be doable. If you can afford film, you can afford a machine to scan the film, and something like this would make it a lot quicker and easier. There are enough companies selling those little shitty film scanners that do this but with a cellphone sensor; seems like there could be a market for a really good one in the $500 range.
