I have an AE-1 with a 50mm. I want something lighter but without compromising on quality or features. Also I'd prefer an slr to a rangefinder as I'm not used to it and feel like I'd fuck up my frame. Also go easy on my wallet please

The only way to do that is to go digital. The AE-1 + 50mm is lighter than some mirrorless setups FFS. Maybe join a gym and lift.

Olympus Om1 or Om2n. Their camera bodies are lighter and more compact. Lenses are also smaller. 49mm filter thread compared to 52mm filter thread on Canon's FD lenses. Olympus used to be "that company that makes the tiny cameras" in the old days.

Especially if you want to adapt the lenses onto digital bodies too, Olympus have among the smallest footprint on top of the adapter.

you're really not going to get much smaller/lighter than an AE-1...not noticeably at least. Even the difference between an AE-1 + 50mm 1.8 (590g + 255g = 845g) vs cheapo plastic EOS 300v + 50mm 1.8 (365g + 190g = 555g) is only 290g. Camera straps alone could make a 100g difference.

Smaller and lighter that actually makes a difference? Get a point and shoot or rangefinder. That's their reason for existence.

Even that pentax mx + 40mm comes out to 495 + 90 = 585g. Again, not much difference.

Contax T = 300g
Olympus XA = 255g
Canon Sure Shot Max = 245g
