If you use an f1.8 lens it's actually fucking f1.8 instead of f1.8 times your crop factor

Higher resolution and detailed images with real "pop"

Adapted lenses as they were originally intended without a crop. Can use a speed booster to get closer to medium format speeds

Bigger cameras with better ergonomics

Still more affordable than Medium Format

All the lens design and innovation going to full frame into the future unlike APS-C or micro four thirds

The golden rule should be to know what kind of images you aim to produce and the most optimal technology that supports them. Generally, the bigger the sensor, the better but you should also know that there is a point of diminishing returns and that they diminish exponentially depending on how you interact with photography.

It's actually the other way around. Lower tier lenses are much more complex. They're the ones doing the innovation here.

yes, aperture is just the size of the opening in relation to focal length, but f1.8 will give you different DOF on FF than f1.8 on crop, given that the focal length is already translated according to the crop.

except it isn't. You know how people say "this 35mm lens is 50mm in full frame equivalent"? The exact same thing applies to aperture. There is a full frame equivalent aperture too so the aperture on the box may be "correct" but it isn't the full frame equivalent.

Nobody talks about it because it causes massive sperg-outs but it's true. You get a better depth of field with full frame than with crop with the same lenses. Crop factor doesn't just apply to focal length.

Reason Number 1 is Lens pricing.
FF has the largest userbase that buys beyond the kitlens.
The larger the userbase, the larger volume the manufacturers much provide.
Economies of scale ensures the largest manufacturing volumes becomes cheapest to maanufacture.

Hence you end up with third party lens makers like Tamron and Sigma providing lenses with the best bang for the buck.
And their best value lenses are Full Frame.

Sure you could argue Medium format is in theory better, but the userbase simply isn't large, so the lenses are produced in smaller volume and end up overpriced due to that.
So MF is out of the picture.

Smaller formats are dying out. Their userbases are tiny compared to Full Frame.
So sometimes you see micro 4/3 maker demand 1000 dollars for a lens, because they have to to survive.
But it doesn't change the fact that it's over priced and you could spend those 1000 dollars on a good F1,4 FF Prime, or a good F2,8 zoom.
