Daido has used digital since the first 2mp Sony Mavica cameras. He's been shilling Silver Efex for editing his B&W work for years. He may be 80 years old now but he adapted extremely quickly in the digital age and doesn't seem to care if it's film or digital he's using. I think saying someone else is the "digital Daido" is redundant because Daido isn't a filmfag other than that's all he could use back when it was the only option.

The book is a compilation of photos taken in a town called Uwajima. I live near there. it’s suffering badly from population decline and is absolutely dripping with this sad atmosphere. It’s in this beautiful humid green subtropical mountainous area right on the ocean, full of old and collapsing buildings, farms, decaying industrial structures, etc. one of the most evocative places I’ve ever been. Not a single photo in the book came close to capturing it. It was actually impressive how poorly composed and unimaginative it all was. Any rando with an iPhone would have had to try really hard to do so badly. Moriyama is shit sorry

He's mostly known for his black and white high contrast work. The colour stuff he's trying to emphasis how tacky and gaudy something is. See the bright pink wall in the second picture. I'm not as much of a fan of his colour work but I'm glad he uses colour for a specific purpose rather than whenever he feels like it.

That’s one way of putting it. But the real problem isn’t that his vision of the town is different from mine or something. It’s that every photo is just a half-assed snapshot of deeply uninteresting subject matter. I have absolutely no idea what he was going for with it.
