or Don't ever shoot your friends at a steep discount because they won't appreciate it.
I'll start by saying that I have shot and art directed campaigns with massive budgets. Typically the agency I am with handles everything for me client side. A friend of a friend told me that he needed some photos for his website and his social media and if I would be willing to help him. I charge this guy Nothing ($500). I typically charge somewhere around 10 and 20k for bigger campaigns) because he is a friend of a friend. I involved him in every aspect of the shoot, asked him if we got the shots during each set up (to which he never reneged or said anything), I sent him websized proofs without watermarks and gave him a ton of selects that I would process, didn't charge him for extra usage other than his website. He came back today and told me he was disappointed, I almost feel like he would not have payed the second half if I had not made him sign a contract. I basically did everything but suck this guy off and he didn't appreciate it. Never again.
