Fungus problems..

I everything I own has been trashed by fungus in the last 4 months. This includes things that've never been in the same house as each other. - or the same bag.

Had a Minolta Hi-Matic E, left in a bag, in the dark, with dessicant. After a year it fungus'd.

My Canon F-1, left in a seperate house for 4 months - developed brown spots on the viewfinder. The 50 F1.4 on it developed a small but visible spot.

Bought a replacement 50 F1.8. Arrived clean. One day it was normal - the next a spot appearred - like a halo around a single fleck of bright dust.

A Super Takumar F1.8 55mm lens has the exact same spot.

It doesn't look mycellial - it doesn't have that white fibre like look- It's more like a spot like something landed and stopped growing. All of them look the exact same.

But there's no real common link between what's been affected and what hasn't and it's driving me mad.

Stored in light or darkness. With dessicant. Never even together in the same building. And they get affected the same way.

While new stuff like the EOS650 is completely unaffected.

How do I stop this from wrecking more gear?

Wvery lens has fungus spores in it.

What matters is the environment. If it is humid and dark, your lenses will have issues before long.

Try a dry box or even one of the environmental control boxes.

Looking for a smol m-mount or ltm mount lens in the 25-40mm range. Already aware of voigtlander's offerings but am quite unaware of the ltm world of lenses (canon, nikon, etc). Looking to spend no more than $300. Any recommendations? Pic related (i don't care about viewfinder lines fwiw)

Yeah, the Onestep series is really fun to play with, especially the last OneStep+ with all the bluetooth functions
The color film is not perfect yet, I find it washed and not so contrasted. Also temperatures influence the tones of shot, if it's cold > blue tones and if it's warm > yellowish tones
On the opposite, the b&w film is a pleasure to use, with significant dynamic range if you expose it right
I might buy a SX70 soon and use it with Polaroid Original film

I've tried multiple environments. Even intentionally leaving the lenses open to sunlight from a window - or in a dessicated environment with silica gel. Nothing helps.

There's absolutely no common thread. They're not even cleaned with the same equipment.

Yes. The hood is really useful until 40mm but sometimes I forget to take it off when I zoom out to 35mm since the vignetting doesn't show in the viewfinder. Unfortunately there's no hood that fits the lens better without being massive.

I have a SLR 680 and it's great. If you want to try something else look into that one. They are pretty pricey normally but on eBay they sometimes go away for below 200. It is bigger and a bit more impractical than the SX-70 though.

Why should I avoid the earlier Mamiya 645's? They are made mostly of metal and are reliable.

I am drawn to the Mamiya lenses a tad bit more from what I see online tho

You could look for some Canon 28mm 3.5 or 2.8. The 2.8 is the one Winogrand used. I've been looking for one for ages, but all offers are from Japan and considering tax, I could go for the widely available Ultron. Why do you think Velvia would work well with those?
I also recommend the 21/4 Skopar. Best lens in regards to price/performance is the 35/2.5 Skopar. Optics are the same in all 3 versions, but the M-mount version handles best due to the focus tab. If you want something faster, the Nokton 35mm might be interesting, but it has heavy barrel distortion.

Ya I was looking at the Canon LTM a bit, but for the price the 35mm Skopar seems to be the better choice.

The 21mm is definitely on the radar. Thinking the finished kit will either be the 21mm f4 + 35mm f2.5 or the 25mm f4 + 40mm f1.4.

Don't care too much about speed, definitely not into the barrel distortion of the Nokton 35.

Got the 21+35 combination and it's been quite useful so far. After some time with the 35mm Skopar, I sold it in favor of the Biogon f/2. Where are you from? I just found a reasonably priced Snapshot Skopar on ebay.. perfectly matches your budget and comes incl. the collectible LH-1 hood.

Sorry, I didn't word it properly. I know leaf shutter sync at all speed but I'm wondering if there are other limitations with the X sync. Why did flash makers tried so hard to kill it?

The reason why we don’t have more cameras with leaf shutters are:
1. Leaf shutters can’t have shutter speeds as fast as focal plane shutters. They’re limited by the speed they can open and close the shutter, while a FP shutter can just open a tinier slit in the shutter curtains for a faster effective shutter speed (but can’t sync at those speeds without cleverness)
2. Having a separate shutter mechanism in each lens adds complexity and expense
3. You often get issues where you can’t use all apertures at all shutter speeds

Flash manufacturers didn’t do anything to kill off leaf shutters. And, in fact, a lot of systems still have them (especially fixed lens cameras) or have them as an option, specifically for the faster flash sync.

Does that answer your question, or am I still misunderstanding it?

Nah it has limitations when used with anything *other than* leaf shutter lenses.

The only thing to be aware of, is if you use a cheap flash at full power, it might have a duration slightly longer than 1/500. But halving the power more than fixes that.

I'm not sure they did that.
But leaf shutters definitely expose subpar flashes and wireless triggers.

A max speed of 1/125 or 1/250 in focal plane shutters allows manufacturers to use cheaper components, like circuitry for the triggers, capacitors for the flashes etc. . Because even if the triggers lag a bit and if the flash duration drags on a bit, they half an extra stop of shutter speed for leeway so the end user doesn't notice that.
This also allows them to "sloppily" offer higher total outputs, by allowing the duration to be longer and the curve of the power/time more extended.

An 1/500 leaf shutter will expose that, and at 1/1000 for few cameras, only the best triggers and flashes can keep up.

I'm in the US. I want a film scanner. I'm looking at either Plustek or Reflecta/Pacific Image scanners.

Plustek 8200i AI seems to be their best model, which includes an IT8 target.

Reflecta seems to be the "real" manufacturer but Pacific Image appears to be a reseller? or partner? or international version? Am I wrong?

The RPS 10M seems to be THE BEST machine overall on the entire market besides high end professional grade monsters, but the equivalent PI PrimeFilm XA has been discontinued. They now have a PrimeFilm XAs (Super edition).

Is the PrimeFilm XAs worse in any way? They say it's sharper and scans faster. Not sure if achieved through means of cheaping out and sacrificing IQ for post processing sharpness shit.

The 8200i AI clearly states it supports 48-bit color output and comes with an IT8 target.
The Reflecta/Pacitic Image scanners do not list 48-bit output in their specs and this worries me. Do the reflecta/PI scanners support 48-but color output?

If I'm just looking for sharp scans of my film and not 100% fucking professional shit, is the included IT8 target a great bonus worth settling for the Plustek for?

I'm pretty sure the "Color Skopar" is rangefinder-coupled--you're thinking of the "Snapshot Skopar"

(I don't own either of them, so I'm not 100% on that, but that's what I gathered from the surface-level research I did on them while avoiding work at my actual job a month or two ago)

This only matters for slide films.
Targets can be bought seperately as well, maybe $20-25 for a top notch quality one.

I can't stress enough how huge of a convenience that is. You can put all the options on (dust removal, multiple exposure, whatever), walk away for dinner or movie or whatever, and it'll be done when you're back. With the plustek you have to advance *every frame* individually. You have to be in front of the scanner at least 1:30 hour.
This is the killer feature that sets it apart.

About bit depth yeah it's 48bit (actually 64bit, including dust removal data in a separate channel). It depends on the scanning software though, to take advantage of that.

Silverfast is the best modern software in terms of features and film inversion profiles. Vuescan is much cheaper and works with more scanners, also exposing more low-level settings.

Usually the bundled in software is trash compared to the above. And Silverfast (especially the AI version) is a considerable expense, and I'm not sure it can be found cracked.

If you can afford it, definitely go with the reflecta.

Thanks for the info. What are some of the best flash back in the day? I know Metz CL-3/4 are good and highly sought after since they work well with modern camera but kind of too big to carry around. Are the smaller Metz flash like BTC series just as good build quality wise?

Interesting.
I would have assumed any IT8 would do, since once basic color calibration is established I thought variance in film color casts could then be removed through presets later on, if you used a wide enough color space. I have seen options for specialized IT8 targets for specific films so I guess that's not the case?
If I'm using Ektar the Plustek's IT8 target would be useless? Or would it still be useful but not as optimal as a more specialized target for my film type?

I thought about this but I'm at my computer a lot and I believe I could get by with the manually operated one if it resulted in a better image. Manual seems more versatile too if I wanted to get a custom holder for smaller, obsolete film, like APS/110.

Besides the IT8 target, the only difference between the 8200i SE and AI is just the Silverfast version right? From what I understand the Silverfast the 8200i scanners come with is also not the full version, and it's tied to that scanner, so can't use it with a newer one due to DRM/licensing/restrictions yeah?

I already own VueScan and use it with my flatbed. Figured I would get by with that.
Seems like the Reflecta is the best choice if IT8 targets are cheap

I thought the target might have been like a $100 value by itself. Right now I could go to B&H and buy the PacificImage PrimeFilm XAs (US version of RPS10M) for $10 less than the 8200i Ai.

Lastly, I can put my film scanning off for a while as I've still got plenty of prints to go through.
Has there been any news about new scanners coming to the market this year? I don't know where to look for those kind of announcements.

Differentfag here, hi. As I understand it, if you want "real" and "true" colour in print film, you'd take a shot of a colour calibration chart whenever the light changes, and then process the scans to yield those colours on your calibrated display and/or printer. Needless to say this tends to make the difference between colour response in different films subtle. Its also hella expensive on 6x9 or bigger, and calibration stuff for monitors and/or printers can also be expensive. But it's useful for digital stuff as well, so w/e.

Targets are not universal, they’re for the specific film type. I assume any target would be better than no target at all, but the appropriate target might give you that final 5%.
Personally I think that no target is still fine, cause with slides you have a great reference, the slide itself which you can view directly. So you can correct easier, since you know what you want to make it look like. This is impossible with negatives for instance.

I’d say don’t get fixated on targets. Monitor and printer calibration is far, far more important, and far more likely to be far more off, to worry about targets.

Check the size, you only need 35mm. And my bad, it’s $35 not $30.

You got a point about weird formats.

The value of the Ai is just the software not the target. The Ai is ridiculously expensive and silverfast’s pricing policy is ridiculous. The same piece of software, for different scanners, is a different price. (And yes it’s tied to the scanner).
Literally, if your scanner is expensive, the AI software for it will be also expensive. They think that since you can afford an expensive scanner, you can afford expensive software. The same software for a $300 scanner might be $250 and for a $2000 coolscan or drum will be $700-900. Check their website, it’s completely ridiculous.

Supposedly PlusTek is releasing a new 35mm/120 scanner with autofocus and better lens. Won’t be cheap though (guessing in the $1500-2000 range).

Generally, you're right, the Color Skopar is rangefinder coupled. However, the 25mm f/4 in ltm actually is the Snapshot Skopar and it's not rangefinder coupled, but has click stops at certain distances. The M-mount version of the 25mm f/4 lacks these click stops and is rangefinder coupled. It seems the ebay item is just labelled incorrectly.

I agree with you anon. 50mm feels like a short tele for people shots. 35 is a great all around, same for 40mm.

Portra 800 is very good too but usually it's overpriced compared to the 400 variant.

I only consider them close in that if I've a limited budget and am trying to put together a set of lenses, I'm going with either a 35mm or a 50mm and not both (or if I'm carrying primes, or otherwise somehow limited in lenses). They're definitely different lenses that work better in different situations, but it's still that normal range. I want my next lens to be able to handle a range of situations that doesn't really overlap with what that first lens does...

I have an old 75-300mm lens from some analog camera, i got an adapter to fit it on my canon and it turns out there's some odd lack of sharpness/haze/contrast issues.

Overall sharpness is there fine detail is lacking. It's like an extremely thin coating of grease or something is over one of the lenses. Lens is over 20 years old. I cleaned the outer and inner surface of the ones that are exposed. It's not unusable, but the kit lens that came with the body is just a lot sharper and has better contrast in images.

The 75-300mm was never a professional grade lens, so I have a feeling it's probably just obsolete? Better glass on the kit lens gets a better image? I'm thinking it might also be the adapter causing issues but can't be sure. There's like a purpleish haze.

In general, just how do old lenses compare to cheap modern ones? Do adapters with optics (instead of just air) in them shit on quality?

Could a polarized filter help?

80s & 90s zoom lenses (consumer grade in particular) where usable but distinctly worse than primes. Modern lenses may have better optics but on digital bodies, I would assume that software based correction does help a lot (with modern lenses).

If it's an old some some of the elements may have worn bushings. They start moving independently of each other and decentering or coming out of focus.

Most old zooms are just terrible. There are a few that can hold their own to modern lenses (Leica 35-70 f/3.5 comes to mind), but most aren’t worth buying. At least not before the autofocus age.

Primes are a different story. Modern ones tend to have better coatings and better corner/edge to edge performance, but for most purposes and older prime can hold its own on a modern digital body.

I believe there isn't even a coating on the front element for the one I have. Perhaps there is, but, it doesn't seem to have any of the commonly seen colored reflection when looking at the lens. I believe I might be able to solve most of the issue by simply using a UV filter I'll give that a try unless that's a waste.

For what it's worth using the tighter apertures kind of cancels out most of the haziness. I assume modern coatings do a lot to help with that? Or is it mostly the glass quality for things like that?

There's like zero of this at the widest aperture on even an unfocused photo with a kit lens while the purple haze on the old one is everywhere like a reverse vignette that's pretty extreme at max aperture.

I've a 24-35mm L lens that was like that when I bought it. One of the elements had come loose in its tracks. I was able to make a temporary repair and it was good.

It lost infinity after about 6 months anyway. So it needs a real repair to be done. The L might be worth repairing - since it's about 250-300 even with damage....

But even the best zooms wear out.

There's always coating on lenses made since like the fifties. It could be a single coating up 'til the seventies, when multicoating came about. Not all of them are visibly coloured; for example my Industar-22 (collapsible, m39) has a pale blue coating so barely visible that for a long time I thought it was uncoated. But no, Soviets did have lens coating stuff in 1956.

Another reason for softness that wasn't mentioned is that old zooms are generally better on film than on digital. This is because film accepts a latent image regardless of the angle of incidence, whereas digital sensors' microlenses, filters, and what-not require a narrower angle. But this would be a bit odd for a 75-300, i.e. a telephoto zoom where rays ought to stay in nice order all the way (without understanding the optics at all, as in my case).

pretty much most film canon eos cameras are decent and full of all you need to take good photos, and dirt cheap.
of course the more expensive higher-end models are pretty awesome, like the eos1 and 3 and the elan 7e/7ne, but for pennies you can't go wrong with any of the lower-end models.
the rebel g is a good choice. it uses the more common CR123 cells so you can get some rechargeable batteries for it.
I'd recommend the Rebel T2 instead. it was the last gen eos film body and has the faster 1/4000 shutter.

Ironically, this is true of the EOS RT which was designed for fast shooting, and had a pellicle mirror for that reason. The very old and cheap EOS 620 (one of the first EOS models) has a 1/4000 shutter speed!

apart from the single digit eos bodies and the 620, I think the only ones that go up to 1/4000 are the elan, elan II, elan7/7n and the rebel T2.
I guess canon figured people who bought the lower end modes would never buy a faster lens than the f4 kit lens so a 1/2000 shutter was enough. I mean, I had a rebel K2 for years and rarely ever needed a step over 1/2000. only until I got the 50mm 1.8 II lens and tried to do the bokeh thing wide open under the midday sun did I wish it had a faster speed lel

When the EOS 620/650 were released, there were no higher end models initially, and they were seen as fairly high end cameras. 1/2000 would not have been considered that slow either given that ISO400 was long considered a fairly high box speed. The EOS line was only introduced in 1987 with tmax 3200 released in 1988.

Because I am a pathetic man with no life, I actually ran the numbers.
Total: 31 film cameras (based on Wikipedia's Film EOS timeline)

1/8000th: 6 bodies (~19%)
1/4000th: 8 bodies (~26%)
1/2000th: 17 bodies (~55%)

Although the 1/2000th bodies are predominantly Rebels and other low-end bodies, which were by far the best sellers, so it's not at all outside the realm of possibility that 80% of canon EOS film bodies (i.e., actual produced cameras in the world, not individual models) had a 1/2000th maximum shutter speed. Probably significantly higher.

And since I'm throwing around statistics, personally I've shot 1/8000th on my cameras 658 times out of 763,683 photos in my catalog, which puts it at about 0.086% of my photos. And a significant number of those were accidents. Not all of them, though--a few are legitimately shots where I was in sunlight but wanted super shallow DoF.

The faster shutter speeds are actually more important with film, since you won't be able to change speeds mid-roll but you will likely change time-of-day mid-roll.

i'm going to disagree with you here though the premise is understandable. i learned on, and most of my day to day film shooting is still with fully mechanical cameras (a dented SRT201 in my case), like all photography students. most popular mechanical student cameras all max out at 1/1000.

never thought of this as any sort of disadvantage as people that shoot lots of film use filters- lots of filters. it's part of the process. yellow, orange, red for b+w; skylight and 81b warming filters with color negative and slide film; and of course a set of nd filters: 1 stop to 10 stop in a neat little wallet in the camera bag. if you want to bokeh fag during the day, you use a filter like a grown up that knows their ass from their elbow.

film shooters have and know how to use filters. digital shooting gearfaggots only know how to evaluate a film camera by it's spec sheet because they know exactly dick about photography. TL;DR shutter speed is the least important thing about a film camera.

Found a 5 1/4" piece of foam made for a drive bay cover, have been cutting it with an Xacto knife to make light seals. I did the Yashica Lynx 14e and my XA today. Will probably do my Himatic 9, XA2 and the RB67 tomorrow. Test roll is in the Lynx, really looking forward to having fun again with a rangefinder.

The Soviet FED2 I fixed up needs the rangefinder infinity parallax calibrated but other than that it's ready to go.

Pretty much all of the 90s Sigma zooms are junk, but their EX prime lenses are fan-fucking-tastic. I have the 24 1.8 and it roflstomps my Nikon 24 2.8 which has been regarded as one of the sharpest wide primes ever made by Nikon.

I depends a lot on the lens quality. Normal lenses are not designed to perform well at high magnification. Stopping down will only do so much for field curvature. A deep curved field is still a curved field.
It will be better than not extension tubes though, I'd say go for it, never anything bad in owning some tubes.

I just want to share it with you.

I've been trying to DSLR scan my films for some time, for cheap. I DIYed a lamp from single, very bright COB LED and I had a lot of problems with vignetting. I made anoher one, this time using 5 long and much weaker LEDs and it worked! The total cost of the second lamp was ~$30 (first was like $5) and I can get 12-14 Mp files after cropping. If you are struggling with the same problems, I can provide more details.

It's great news for me, because now I can think of developing b&w film, something I wanted to do since I started analog photography. Pic related is one of the first. I've uploaded it as big as I could, so you can see the quality or the lack of it. There's still stuff to work out, like proper exposure and the best aperture (this was taken at f/11) and fucking dust. I hate cleaning slides already.

I don't see the problem. That's a fine scan, albeit of a 6x6 negative. Detail looks good, contrast looks good. I can tell the letters apart on that shipping container, and their corners and edges look clear.

Of course from 6x6 you'd want to take as many snaps at 1:1 as it takes to cover the film, then stitch. Such is the pain of digitization.

I use Tetenal, on my 4th 2.5L kit. I get 30 rolls per L out of both their c41 and e6 kits. Currently on roll 33 with my current c41 chems and may do a few more rolls. Results seem perfect still.

Workflow is basically the instructions. Use a sous vide as pictured above and 2 aquarium thermometers (1 in the water bath to ensure temp is okay and 1 in sink for rinses between chemicals).

do the inbetween rinses have to be at the working 38ºc temp too?

Each step becomes less temp sensitive. The first rinse after step 1 I have at 38C. The next rinse is within a few degrees of 38C. Final rinse is room temp because the stabilizer which comes last is at room temp.

I used to pre-rinse but stopped.

well i usually use the holder that i've used with my v600 but it covers the sprockets, so for this one i didnt use a holder. i just got the lomography digitaliza in the mail so im gonna try that out. im using a 5dmkii with the 100mm 2.8 macro (non L-series) and i got some pipes/tubes from home depot that the camera fits into pretty well.

I wouldn't recommend buying either version, the build quality is shit and overpriced as fuck for what it does. Just 3D print a holder, there's plenty of models available on the internet. Wish I had done that instead.

Cameras are cheap as dirt, avoid the ones which are hyped on the internet. Film & development depends on where you are based.

In Germany I can get three rolls of Kodak Gold 200 for 8€, development costs 1€/roll and .15c per print, so really cheap.

You can develop BW scan yourself, which is a nice and affordable start.

Yes. It's called the RB67.
But really, your Pentax will be fine. If you're jumping to medium format for the first time then you're gonna love the negatives. People nitpick and shit, but pretty much any medium format camera is worth it if in working condition.

For film go to DM, they have the Kodak Gold 200 three pack, also you can develop the film there. At my store it takes 7-10 days. You can also find Kodak Ultramax 400, but its more expensive.

Personally I bought the cameras on ebay, which was no problem.

I currently use the Canonet 28 and QL17, which I like a lot. It depends if you want a SLR or a rangefinder.

For SLR look for Nikon F2, Canon AE1, Olympus OM1 or similar. For rangefinder there are tons of options, check a few youtube videos you ll find everything you need.

Keep your eyes open what kind of battery is needed for the camera, many used mercury batteries which are no longer sold. You can substitute them with zink air batteries which are used in hearing aids. some cameras might need an adapter so that the battery fits inside (like my canonet) but you can find those on ebay for 10€.

Same here. I shoot mostly handheld with the adjustable grip. Film, lenses, etc in backpack. People don't realize that with the waist level finder it's super steady in hand.

early ones, the minolta SRT line is pretty good but uses the old mercury battery. you can go around it with 675 hearing aid cells, but for the most trouble-free experience look for later models, like the Minolta XD7, the X-700, X-500 or X-300.

also the Pentax ME Super is a real sweet camera to use, and it's quite light and compact.

as for the kits, can't get them here either. but I can buy the kodak chemistry just fine. people around here do it for home c-41 dev altough it's kind of expensive as it's meant for larger volumes, but there's some guys who repackage it in smaller quantities for roughly the same prices as a tetenal kit.

Fujifilm store lab. they have all fuji equipment so scanner is definitely some sort of Frontier. they get the whole roll scanned in less than 10 minutes, with next to none operator input so I'm guessing everything is in full auto and it does some trimming all around to avoid getting the film mask in the scan, but this is crazy.

dunno if other labs do the same, or if the machine is setup to do it. I wasn't aware of it until I scanned the negs at home with the plustek.

If it works, $5 is a good price. As the other anon said, 27mm is a bit novel, and it's got a flash as well. Exposure looks like Holga, i.e. f/11, f/8, f/8 with flash. Focusing looks like an infinity meniscus, but presumably the lens is at least glass. Thumb-wind, I'm gonna guess.

Certainly not a "good" camera, and not a "sharp" lens, but probably worth $5 if you're gonna shoot at least two rolls on it, and maybe a single mile better than a disposable.

No typical micro prism in the finder but there iss a round spot in the middle (like a third of the frame in diameter) that is a precision ground glass or something, the in focus parts really pop and it's very intuitive
focusing is no issue, maybe if you are wearing glasses it isn't that great idk

it's a fantasic camera, VERY satisfying machanical feeling, good lenses with a ton of character and it looks super sexy imo

take this lazy shot of mine, basically mint and never used before I got it, box and all. Just the lens was missing but I found a matching one in Tokyo in great condition.

Tru. Shooting an OG Zenit or vest pocket cameras with 1/125, 1/30 and T to choose from, you quickly realise it's simple as dirt to work around.
Really makes you twonder what the fuck Canon was thinking when they went balls deep on shutter-priority SLR's.

Calibrated the rangefinder in the FED-2 yesterday, it is the first camera I did a complete full CLA on myself and the test roll is in. I checked the close focus against my Df and it seems to be accurate.

Should, just make sure the trigger voltage is the same as your Fuji. Almost found out the hard way my 285 Thyristor could have smoked my Df because it has way different trigger voltages, some are 6v and others are 12v, the old 5D I had was so old and designed to work when those flashes were still commonplace in the market you can trigger 285's all day with it.

Fungus isn't as bad as you would think, some of my absolute best and most highly-praised images on /p/ ever were shot on 20 dollar lenses with fungus in them, pic related.

If the fungus is around the outside of the lens elements most of the time you won't have any issues and you can get bargain prices for baller glass because gearfags won't touch them. I snatched up my Nikon 180 2.8 ED for 90 bucks doing that, and it has a huge fucking gouge on the front element too and even shooting into the sun or points of light there are no issues.

If the fungus is thick enough you can get hazing on the element and that does affect image quality. I have a Sigma 135 2.8 with that problem and it's on the front element luckily so I'm going to try my hand at lens repair and see if I can get the front element off to clean it.

Sometimes fungus can damage the coatings on the lenses too, depending on the element and what you are shooting, that can also damage it. But for the most part, light fungus won't be a dealbreaker for image quality even if you pixel peep.

Do make sure though, those fungus lenses are sat out in the sunlight for extended periods of time, I used to do mine all day on the porch. As long as you can kill it with UV radiation it won't spread to other lenses.

tl:dr; no big deal, go shoot your shit.

Yeah ridiculous, I bought a Oly Trip 35 for 5,- a few years ago and now they go for 30-40. I should have bought a truckload of small compacts a decade ago and could have made a fortune. I wanted to get a Mju II but am not going to pay the current price. What is so special about the Mju II anyway? The look, the weather resistance? Was it in a tv-series?

it's honestly a nice camera. very fast and reliable af (compared to similarly priced meme cameras), the shape makes it extremely pocketable, and ya...weather resistance is quite unique. i'd pay $100 for one happily. for the price they go for now though? fuck no i'll take a $20 point and shit and $300 of film instead.

It's been memed into thinghood for years now. Nothing else. Used to be 6€ apiece three years ago, just another Olympus compact that won some awards (like Oly often did back then) and had a decent lens despite being the smallest. Sort of like film GRs and Minoxes, but not because of celebrity value; just that the camera is famous for being famous.

Also, fuck cameras that eat batteries that cost 6€ apiece as well! Driving a motor with batteries, hory shitto.

I was also disinclined to get CR123s or whatever it is it asks for, and the video that says "it's so easy to turn on, all i have to do is slide the front cover and hit the flash button twice" and the flash button is a fucking rubber chiclet which I can just tell by looking it's not gonna have positive feedback that I've actually hit the damn button twice.

So yeah. I'm happy with another compact. 11st roll in it since February. Loving the zone focus.

The cheat mode for black and white in Rodinal is 1+100, at least 500ml thereof, at room temperature for one hour. Agitate gently for first 30 seconds, then four inversions at the half hour mark. Generally this produces a result of some kind.

MF folders have longer bellows than that. There's no classic folder with a focal length under 75mm. The rectangular viewfinder is another giveaway that it's 35mm. (6x9 also have those, but those would have huge bellows)
