That could be slightly out of focus. Hyperfocal distance at 1.2 with a 50mm lens is 110m, so the closest thing in focus would be at a 55m distance.

You buy an f/1.2 lens to shoot it at f/1.2 at least some of the time. If you can never shoot it at an aperture wider than f/2 when why not just buy an f/2 lens?

This is not always true. Nikon AF-D 50 1.4. It's passable at 1.4 depending on the subject but at f/2 it's razors and they can be had for super cheap.

But you are right for the most part, the f/2 lens will be shit wide open compared to the f/1.2 lens at F/2

For many lenses, the faster version will be worse at smaller apertures than the slower version. It doesn't work like "f/4 is stopped down 3 stops on this f/1.4 lens but only 2 stops on that f/2 lens, so it'll be sharper cause the more you stop down the sharper it gets".
