I also think /p/ puts quality way too high in priority and as a result you get people gearfagging but you also get people putting composition and long rigorous setup on a pedestal when simply cropping or removing in post is the sensible option

Within the group of published/award winning photographers I know all but one of them are exclusively RAW save for specific circumstances. As always you aim for what gets the job done best- in 2019 that almost always skews towards doing more in post

To get back to OP, personally I love having more options in post and for me that typically means spending a little extra time setting up properly whether that's the light in a studio or the camera in still shooting. Ultimately the thing /p/ lacks most is experience in multiple areas which eventually forces you to get more right in camera AND process correctly depending on the work
There is no one-answer but if you wont do something in post out of principle your principle is probably ridiculous/pride and holding you back
