Hello my fellow speedgraphers, I wanted to ask you about camera prices and which to buy.
As to make it quick I'll give you a brief summary,
I have been into cosplay for awhile but getting photos from people that don't send back any or even be heard from em is frustrating; and using my phone just sucks ass so I want to start by buying a good camera to make some good shots!
I have a budget between 500-1000 more or less is okay as long as the camera is good and beginner friendly I guess? But I just want the best quality for my buck, and digital would be great as well.

Different Anon here:
Most modern-ish bodys will do as long as you don't need to work with realy low light.
Don't go just by megapixels alone, they don't mean shit these days as even low-end models have a higher resulution than your screen can show.
If you need good low-light performance you should get a relatively recent body and a lense with low F/ number.
Low F/ also means you can get your background less sharp (bokeh).
For starters something like a used Sony A6000, Canon EOS 2000D or Nikon equivalent with an adapter for some cheap prime lense of roughly 28-50 mm focal length and about F/2 besides the kit-lense should do the job.
(Better no additional zoom-lense)

However your main issues will be composition, technique and post-production.
One thing that is popular at the moment is using a lense with low F/ and having the background as blurry as possible while the motive is still sharp.
I recomend using as low ISO as reasonably possible for each shot as high ISO means backround noise, however low ISO means you will need longer esposure.
A rule of thumb is exposure time in fractions of a second shouldn't exceed your focal length.
So 50mm -> 1/50th second exposure or faster.
28 mm -> 1/28th second or faster.
With cosplay you may want to ramp up saturation a little in post and touch up some spots.

Pic related, a shot with a low depth of field.
I accomplished that with a lene with F/2 and 58 mm focal length.
(The lense is purely mechanical and my camera can't detect it, therefore it doesn't show up in the EXIF)
However I won't recimend such a long focal length on an APS-C sensor most of the time.

I started with a D70s and it taught me a lot of the basics.
tag along with another cosplay photographer.
also practice.
I took this shot with a D70s with the kit 18-55mm lens. The entire kit cost me about 150 euros and even then it was considered an obsolete body.

This was what I used for shooting mostly bands in crappy lighting at night so you can absolutely use it too.

I would recommend against entry level stuff. Don't worry about it having more bells and whistles, you're gonna wish you got that pro'er body with the extra buttons after going into the menu for the 50th time. A camera is not hard to learn to use.

Also an extra tip: don't let any faggot boss you around, especially if you're not getting paid.
Tell the fag you don't give a shit if Stacy and her jpg-shooting, auto-lightrooming, rebel-using ass has them ready the same day. Don't let him tell you how to shoot either, let the fag get a camera and do it himself if he thinks he can do better.
