My other hobby (cycling) is a lot more dangerous... some good wipeouts and scars over the years, been hit by 2 cars, etc. But I managed to peak my senses with photography a few times.
>too close to an adult moose to get its entire head in frame or even focus
>can't move back without spooking it
I had an exit strategy but that would have involved not getting a shot, so waited it out and got some shots.
>getting dive bombed by goshawks
Funnily enough, I found the nesting area while mountain biking an old game trail. The male swooped down from a high perch and leveled out, right for my face making that awesome scream... had to put my head down, he hit my helmet and I almost wiped out doing 30. Had to get off my bike and back out using it as a shield. Both of then kept hitting me, trying to take my face off. Obv I went back with my camera. No joke, take a full face shield with you.
>see barred owl in tree
>obstructed by everything possible
>only way to get a shot is to climb fallen tree
>balancing 20 feet up on my toes trying to shoot over a branch
>have to shoot using the rear screen holding 12lbs of camera over my head
>boulders below me

Have been surrounded by a pack of coyotes in the middle of the night before... our coyotes are larger wolf hybrids, and have actually attacked people and killed a person just a few years ago. Not ashamed to say I tore down and got on the boat in record time, and left for an island in the rain at 2am. Actually turned out to be one of my more memorable camping trips, cruising in the dark with the headlights on to find that island. Lit a fire on the rocks, made coffee and listened to them howling right at my previous camping spot. Good times.
