is my sony a6000 outdated? i was thinking of getting a new wide angle lens for it but then i don't know if it's worth it to buy lenses if i need to upgrade the body

The only reason to buy new gear is if your current gear is failing you or hindering you in some way, and the gear you buy should be to specifically address that failure.

Why are you considering buying a new camera? "Because mine is old" doesn't count, since many great cameras from 50 years ago still function fine and produce amazing images.

Of course, but the point still stands. The a6000 is a 24mp APSC sensor, that's more megapixels and a larger sensor than many modern-day, top-of-the-line cameras. That's the same size and mp amount as a fucking X-T2, and the former costs literally four times the amount as the a6000 does new on Adorama right now. Obviously there's way more to a camera than pure sensor size + mpx, but the point I'm making is that the image quality for the a6000 is fantastic even nowadays. If you want to upgrade, it should be to address a specific reason. We've kind of reached the point in digital cameras where cameras that are 5-6 years old are still providing amazing images, so there's no reason to upgrade unless a specific thing is holding you back.

I use mine with a cheap speed booster to adapt old lenses. Maybe I'll update to FF one day but this setup gives FF focal equiv and DOF without the bulk so I'm happy. I think it's one of the most versatile cameras ever made.

Invest in better lenses before you start eyeing up new camera bodies. Unless there's a feature you really need then it isn't worth the upgrade. Most of my cameras last me 5-8 years before I switch.

I'm still using my K-3 which was released before the a6000. I don't feel any need to upgrade because there are no features I'm missing out on

X100 is a fun camera, but if you want to go Fuji you can also get the 27mm f2.8 for less than $200 grey market; pretty much any body short of the X-H1 will be similar in size if not a little bit smaller with that on it. The 18mm is pretty tiny too if that's your jam.

I sold my A6000 as it has an extremely loud shutter you can't turn off. Louder than some of my old film cameras. Plus the ergonomics were pretty uncomfortable for my hands. It's still an alright camera but not for me. It really depends on what you shoot and what you value. People just automatically recommend it here as it's cheap for what you get, not so much that it's the best camera for every situation.

Started out with my a6000 2/3 years now. I find still sufficient even buying it when it's supposedly outdated.
When I do have problems with it, I blame myself (still learning) rather than the camera's performance.
Would like better low light performamce though (in raw anyways).

Try getting a faster lens. I think the Mitakon 35mm f0.95 is a steal for what you get. There's also the upcoming Kamlan 50mm f1. 1 II. Or you can get a speedbooster to give vintage lenses more low light performance. There's cheap boosters on AliExpress.

The m43 system is also being silently being ditched by manufacturers because overall camera sales are declining and it doesn't make sense for them to continue to develop and support the m43 system since the race right now for pro gear is largely based around full frame, or at least larger frame cameras.

That's plain wrong. Olympus has confirmed they're not going anywhere, Panasonic just released two new cams despite having FF now, and you've very healthy dose of m43 in video segment. With Black Magic, Panasonic and now even Sharp entering it you're seeing a huge amount of cine lenses made for the system. If anything, it'll survive apsc sony, that hasn't seen first hand lens release in several years now.

I still rock the NEX-7, my dude. 24 megapixels is more than adequate for most purposes. If you choose to upgrade, it should be to increase sensor size from aps-c to full frame. Otherwise, all the newer features are meme tier, like touchscreen displays. The increased frames per second benefits sports and wildlife photographers perhaps, but won’t matter to you if you shoot literally anything else.

Unless there is something you miss in the camera I would focus on technique or get new lenses. I still have a Nex 5n next to my A9 and while being over 8 years old it's still a good camera.

I had an a6000, the IQ is great even now, but sony fails to relase quality lenses, no zooms. My prefered standard lens is 35mm equivalent but the zeiss 24mm is crazy expensive even used, also no zooms of quality. Sony treats aps-c as a backups system, I switched to lumix g85 and even with the lower megapixel count I find myself enjoying the stabilization, the ergonomics and more importantly the huge selection of lenses. Nikon, Sony and canon wont commit to their crop systems, only fuji and m43 will

i bought a sony a6000 recently and i'm satisfied. its my first 'real' camera tho. the only thing that bothers me is low light autofocus and general low light performance. but other than that i managed to capture some really great shots that look like those were taken with a much more expensive camera. but the thing i'm afraid is to spend a lot of money for apsc lenses and what if one day in a year or two i want to buy an FF camera, i don't think they sell well here where i'm from if i want to sell them one day.

Are you freaking me? I hada GH2 for 7 years and absolutely loved the 20mm pancake lens. I was considering getting a a6300 and move up into aps-c for the extra resolution but the selection of lenses was such a disappointment together with the very high premium for IBIS that I decided to went to the gx85 + 14-150 and say screw it to the sony system. There wasnt a single lens that could substitute my 20mm 1.7 in size and aperture in the whole sony system.

Try the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN or its 56mm equivalent. They are compact for how sharp they are and low light performance is excellent on them.

If you're a street shooter who owns only one wide prime, you could go with full frame, but if you need reach and compact size, there is no other choice than m43. aps-c telephotos are almost as big as full frame and superzoom high ISO performance is just unacceptable.
