What's the top 3 best 35mm SLR camera with sharpest lens I could buy?

Currently I shoot with a sony a7riii and want to start learning to shoot with film, I just want to get a really nice camera so I don't need to upgrade later on since money is not issue

I personally like my Canon AE-1 a lot. I used to use the Program but it made me lazy and I am glad it died. But the AE-1 is really nice imo.

Also, i know theyre hated here, but the K1000 is a great camera. K2 or KX if your such a god damned 4chan hipster that the k1000 is too mainstream for you.

Minolta has a wonderful lineup too. I have an SRT101 and MC that I use from time to time and theyre fantastic

Most Nikons are overrated I think but thats just me.

If you care about sharpness go straight to medium format. What's the point obsessing which $500 lens slightly sharper than the rest, when you can outresolve all of them by a wide margin with a $100 medium format lens?

You can pick any 70's SLR with a nifty fifty and be done with it. You won't see any notable difference in IQ between major brands unless you're a grain peeping autist. But if you really want the "best" lens, then get a Contax or Leica R.

The more important question would be what kind of features you require of the body. Are you looking for a mechanical no-frills camera or one with electronic shutter and program modes like the one in your picture? Do you need a light meter?

Literally any brand. Competition was intense in the late 70s-80s so you have brands with a lot of innovation like minolta and olympus meanwhile nikon are generally reliable with rich lens selection but boring. In the end they're all great cameras. You can even go cheap with lesser known brands like yashica, konica that have dirt cheap systems but don't expect a lot of lens. I love my x570, has a very bright and utilitarian viewfinder, is lightweight and the shutter speed dial is so smooth. I also have a nikon fm2 but the only good thing is the high 1/4000 shutter speed. If nikon didnt have so many cool lens I would choose the minolta over it any day.

This. It's also worth noting that the old Canon FD lenses are (mostly) non-adaptable to digital cameras, so old FD glass can be found for a reasonable price.

Just get the absolute latest prosumer canon/nikon/minolta, depending on what lenses you may already have.

Decent metering, decent flash control, decent autofocus, motor drive, etc. Etc. And they aren't subject to the extreme hipster tax. An elan 7 with modern canon L lenses is a fantastic shooting experience.

If you did want some hipster bullshit, the olympus om-2n is my go to, it's super small, the lenses are super small and decent quality, the action is much smoother than canikons at the time and it uses batteries you can still get.

Yeah this. I use an old Canon EOS 620. You can use any Canon EF lens they've made, it has a lot of features from digital (exposure comp, autofocus, A/S/P/M modes & metering). It was dirt cheap and at least you can move up to a Canon EOS of your choice once you get tired of the film meme. There are later models which are even more advanced and of course the Nikon & Minolta competitors.

You can buy a manual camera like a Nikon FE and get some lenses with it (Zeiss and Voigtländer have great sharp lenses for the nikon mount) and with an adapter you can use those lenses with the Sony as well. You have to like manual focus though. Another option is getting a Minolta camera with A-Mount lenses which you can combine with an adapter (LA-EA3) so you have autofocus with both the Minolta and Sony A7. ORRRR get a Canon Eos film body with some EF lenses and get a MC-11 adapter so you can use them for autofocus on the Sony. As far as I know the Contax G-lenses for their G1 and G2 rangefinders are the sharpest lenses made for 35mm ever, it's not an SLR though, sorry.

Speaking of modern lenses, just keep in mind that E or AF-P lenses won't work (there's only one FX AF-P lens and it's also an "E" one anyway).

90s SLRs right now are like how mosin nuggets were in 2010, they're surprisingly good for stupid cheap and give it 5 more years and the prices for them will be retarded

you can buy a minolta with all the lenses officially made for it with all its accessories in good condition for less than 100 bux
