Good morning from Germany. Does sombody have experience with Helios Lenses like the 44-2 58mm? (pic related)
Thinking about buying one of those cheap ass bastards. Advice and Pictures taken with this Lens are very welcome.

one trick pony, can be kinda cool when you get the effect, but only buy one if you have something else in the 50mm range.
cheap and fun, but I wouldnt use it as my main lens

There's no reason to use them over any other M42 fifty except if you want the swirly bokeh effect. They're also a bit of a lottery as far as optics go, you can get a mediocre copy or a terrible one.

Breddy good lens. Just don't forget, that it was produced by 4 different factories, so ability to check lens before buying will be helpful. And don't cheap out on adapter, cheap chinkshit got stuck on my 44-4. From what i can tell it's nothing permanent, but it'll take some effort to remove it.

I have the 44M-4. Swirls aside, I love the color I get out of this lens. And it's fairly sharp stopped down. I got the Fotodiox pro lens mount and haven't had any problems on my Canon 7D.

If you want it for bokeh, make sure you're on full frame. The effect is not nearly as obvious on smaller sensors.
If you want it for speed, be ready for pretty low sharpness wide open.
Somebody once told me that it's quite good on crop as a portrait lens, and I can confim. Wide aperture, tight fov (~90mm equiv. on APS-C) and the skin smoothing property of low sharpness allow for some nice portraits.

The meme swirly bokeh effect, pretty unremarkable but not a bad lens otherwise, provided that you don't get a fucked up defective one with misaligned elements. You won't get much of the advertised bokeh on crop sensors, but at the wider end you get bloom that works as a built-in soft focus filter which is nice for portraits. It's very notable with M4/3, probably less so with APS-C.

Pic related is my favorite Helios snapshit. Nowadays I rarely take it out for a spin because I got a 1.8/55 SMC-Takumar which is a better lens in every conceivable way.

Bokeh works well with fake anamorphic filter. Otherwise it's too distracting and normies will focus more on the swirl than your subject, aka the actual important part of your composition

I can see no reason why an AF adapter wouldn't work. Though this lens extends quite a bit between infinity and macro, so the adapter might not cover the whole range. Haven't personally used it like that, so can't tell for sure.
Now, AF adapters don't seem to be very quick, so focusing manually might not be that much slower, if not faster.

You can grab adapter with AF confirmation (dot will light in a viewfinder when object is in focus). Not sure about full AF, never researched that topic.
But manual focus is breddy easy in live view mode. Probably easy in EVF too.

Helios 44-2/44m is nice lens. But normies overuse swirly bokeh with generic portraits with trees. I`m sure for something you could use it right and creative, just don`t be like everyone else. i personally like Jupiter 8 better when it comes to soviet fifties - it`s soft, has nice round bokeh and people say it looks like leica.

i love mine
$60 and a $9 adapter. works great on canon but the flange distance doesnt work with nikon.
it has a 270 degree turn to focus close to far so dont expect to get moving things easily
very sharp and acceptably fast
like others said, swirls are best on full frame. i usually put my subject at 3m and the background at 9m for a good balance in swirl and bokeh. the bokeh is really smooth if totally out of focus though. the coating is old so bright and neon lights look cool but it flares like a mother. i honestly use a 49mm polarizer to combat that. i lucked out and got one from new york in a few days, look around before you get one from russia in 3 months. but this is one of my favorite lenses and i recommend it for its unique nature and price.

Not entirely true. My Helios 44-2 used to interfere with the mirror on my 5d2 at infinity focus. This can be fixed, but it does require permanent modification to the lens. It's not something you can just slap on there and go shooting without issues

Got my 44-2 58mm on a flea market for ~14€ including a Helios film camera from an old lady once.

It's fun to use and very well manufactured.
I like the bokeh and I also use it for filming.

I'd say get it, it's a nice lens.

I have Helios-44 (m39 mount) and 44M-6 on cropped sensor.

Both the 44-2 and 44M-4 are soft wide open and soft on the edges stopped down. Swirling requires specific conditions, yet it can happen when you do not expect it to and ruins a shot.

It has characteristics, that's why you want it. I like the flaring for moods like this.

I only use it with a speedbooster, not worth it on crop-sensor alone.

Depending on your crop factor 135mm becomes a massive zoom if you're on crop mirrorless. I used a vintage Chinon 135mm on my A6000 and had to run backwards to get a half-decent family group photo. Plus hand shake becomes an issue at that crazy focal length.

Using IBIS or a speedbooster to reduce the focal length helps. They're cheap as fuck on AliExpress.
