I'm looking for a telescope that I can do astrophotography with. I'd like to be able to see nebulae and galaxies with fairly good quality... well as good as 150-200 bucks USD will get me

Don't be disheartened though. 150-200 bucks will get you a nice starter 'scope for visual observations and limited photo opportunities. Do A LOT of research before buying anything.

Sadly most high end astro gear is very expensive. Think one level below military spec optics. Dedicated cooled cameras cost thousands and big astrographs cost even more. Computer guiding adds even more cost.

That being said on a modest budget you can capture nice images from your backyard. If you are serious don't buy cheap, you'll regret it in the long term.

First step will be to the buy the 'scope. If it performs well visually it will be ok for imaging. For deep space objects just finding them in the sky is a major challenge even with a goto mount. They are very dim. I'd spend a few months visually observing the night sky before even attempting any photography.

In the Northern Hemisphere it's Mid Summer now so we're fucked really, if you live in New Zealand you're good to go.

tl;dr with a sturdy tripod and a good quality "lens" with software you can test the water. There's a new astro thread, lurk there although it might die...

Galaxy's are so dim you'd need a $2,000-10,000+ telescope even then looking at them they just look fuzzy to the naked eye.
astrophotography as mentioned is a hella pricey hobby.
Hell a entry level refractor will run you anywhere from $400+ if you are magically able to find a decent refractor under $500 you will be lucky.
The process is advanced it's a lot of work.
You really need a good telecope mount they cost from $699 on sale to over $10,000
You need a auto guider for long exposure to counter act the the earth spin.
You're looking at $1,500+ of you're lucky to get stuff on sale or used.
Is my setup I don't have the money now to finish getting a auto guider to help with exposures of 2 minutes or longer
It's not like you just put the telescope and start imaging you gotta balance, polar align ect..
