Lenses from Voigtlander are known for high contrast and interesting bokeh balls. Lensbaby has multiple lines of interesting optics. Fujinon can give you lots of nice contrast and color. Zeiss delivers clinical precision other manufacturers aspire to, and Leica still kills it with micro contrast across the board. Hell you can even buy a new Petzval lens if you want.
If you're comparing the most popular lenses from Sony, Nikon, and Canon then don't expect much character. They're about delivering the closest thing to perfection that they can. Not to mention almost all the glass for those guys is still manufactured by Tamron.
