If you have the money, yes. They hold their value more than most camera brands, especially Sony. Great lenses. Excellent menu systems and ergonomics. Build quality is solid brass. Leica have great customer service too, which you'd expect for the money.

If you live in the UK go to the Leica shop in Mayfair and ask to give one a try. You'll see why they're priced the way they are the second you feel it in your hands.

I'm familiar with that little hole, honestly the Sony A7 range feel a lot more dense in the hand, leicas feel nice, but empty, and things like the screens and evf's are trash tier.

They business model has become irrelevant ever since the transition to digital. They made several of the best film cameras in existence, and if you bought an M3 back in ‘54, it could be the only camera you needed for the rest of your life. No, the m3 would have been a dinosaur, unsuitable for professional photography as soon as the first auto exposure camera landed, by the time 135 had lost to digital, the top end bodies were doing incredible things.

Uh... whatever you say. To me these look a bit like old rangefinders with a bunch of extra weirdness, and I really don't particularly want to revert to old rangefinders. Modern knobs and wheel pads and joysticks and everything else are just better and more comfy to use

Otherwise, not really. You can get 90% of the feel from using far cheaper rangefinders, use Leica glass on a ton of different bodies of that's what you're after...

There just isn't a financial reason to generally buy one. If you want one, sure, go for it. Just don't lie to yourself that it's an "investment".

The Sony A7 with the Zeiss Loxia lenses offer basically the same experience.You can buy two superior Sony camera's for the price of one Leica.

Regarding IQ, Leicas are the best you can get as far as 35mm film cameras are concerned. Usability is also great. However, one would see a much greater improvement in both IQ and usability if using a medium format rangefinder such as Mamiya 6/7s than using a Leica (compared to other 35mm cameras).

For Leica users, the thing that matters is smartphone-like features and simplicity, but not with an actual smartphone like the dirty plebians.

It must feel somewhat more classy, you want to play pretend photographer without all the weight and the confusing settings. And the company should really rub their apples in your face about their perfect balance and traditions and the modern Leica's connection to your childhood in the 1950s or so.

I see it as a bit of a tragic comedy.

Because one day you might want to sell your camera so you can get a new one cheaper. And it helps if the resale value doesn't drop like a rock the second you take it out of the box like most camera bodies.

I know most people here get their gear bought by mummy and daddy but still. Resale value is important for a lot of the adults on the board.

Digital overtaking film is the only thing which made the M3 'unsuitable' for professional photography. What the fuck are you talking about? Are you aware of how many rolls of film you'd have to shoot to make up the cost of an M10? Over a thousand.
Not everyone is Vivian Maier, nobody I know shot more than maybe fifty rolls in their lives. Even if your grandma was some kind of crazy and did shoot a thousand rolls over the course of her life, there's no way an M10 would last you that long.

And saying "nobody *I* know has shot over 50 rolls" is kind of retarded. You can't generalise a whole community on the actions of a handful of people you know. For all we know you're only friends with casuals who got into film this year. Any quick look at Rangefinderforums, Flickr or anywhere else you'll find people who shoot through hundreds of rolls and have done for years. It's not really uncommon to be very active with film, especially if you're used to developing and scanning your own shit.
