Once you begin seeing photography as more than making a pretty shot or something imitating another photographer, your world opens up exponentially. That’s when you find your style. A good photograph relays more than simply aesthetics. It displays cleverness, sophistication, good timing, an eye for the unusual, patterns, a sense of genius even (and more that I didn’t list, because photography conveys so much). It’s all in the message. If you’re using it solely to convey aesthetics it better be a damn pretty shot, otherwise most people are gonna pass up your sunset/beach/vacation/nature/flower shots without even noticing. Check out Daniel Arnold’s work & the like. His stuff is literal genius, metaphor upon metaphor, messages in every shot. Such a joy to experience his work.
