can someone give me the basics? i want to understand how to be a good photographer. I have an iphone, but i dont want to invest in any gear if I dont like it.

Read through this site front to back and experiment with your phone as you go along. By the end you'll be a better photographer than 99% of /p/. I'm not hopeful you'll do it because it seems zoomers can't be bothered to read or learn but maybe you'll surprise me.

Take photos with your iPhone then.

If you then (predictably) struggle with a lot of subjects, grab srs to professional gear and edit in a more srs editor. Simple.
