any idea on how to take pictures like these?

i've read online that the photographer "superimposes" the picture because of the difficult lighting so my guess is hdr bracketing, but this doesn't look like an hdr photo

Exposure for the highlights/brightest zone (in this case, the flares) and bring out the shadow zones and details in post.

That's because you're used to seeing horrifically tacky HDR photos. When HDR is done well it doesn't look like the garbage you see posted around here and Flickr.

That being said, that photo is shit lol.

Alternatively if you have a good full-frame sensor and expose properly, the things in the window could be easily recoverable with the highlights slider in Camera Raw while opening up shadows for the room.

Or if the dynamic range is close enough, you could get away with capturing everything in histogram and raising shadows/lowering highlights

Look up tutorials for interior real estate photography, they do that stuff all the time
