Also while I don’t personally like the circles, comparing it to pre-exposed film is a symptom of your visual illiteracy. The circle is a flare produced from a light source and as such will never be exactly the same in any two frames. It has an actual optical relationship with the scene.
People who can actually see pick up on these things. People that can’t try to imitate a polarizer in post and think they did a good job.
