Just let him do whatever he wants. I would try to avoid influencing him.
Just let him know about technical stuff when he's capable of understanding and you're done. That will take years tho. I tried to explain exposure speed and how it creates clones of us to two 6 year olds and failed horribly.
Also be cautious. I destroyed 3 film cameras growing up.

I think though, he's more interested in the actual camera than the photos they produce. Boys are more inclined to be interested in machines and tools, how they work and how to use them, etc.

Most dudes who get into photography are more interested in the cameras and lenses than the actual photos they can produce.
