>>3532202Think about what budget camera you would bring when traveling, but you can only bring one lense and every idiot needs to be able to take decent pictures with it.
This camera needs:
>compact body>lightweight design>zoom lense from short wide angle to long telephoto>small sensor to make that possible in a compact lense>very good lense correction programm to deal with the zoom lense>optical image stabilisation>have good automatic modesSounds very much like a bridge camera, doesn't it?
About high focal lengths on these cameras:
Many of them panic about the thought of not getting their motive large enough from a distance, also marketing hyped that as much as megapixels used to be hyped.
But to be fair, there are some not so rare use cases where an effective focal length of over 300 mm might be usefull, namely wildlife or ceepshots at the beach.
Both happen a lot when boomers travel.
Another thing is the classic "my camera can take a better picture of that thing 10 km away" competition, yes if is pointless but it does happen.
Think about them as travel cameras for people that either have no idea what they are doing and still expect decent images or people that just don't care enough and just want a camera that does just about everything.
