Is she honestly trying to "get into photography"? because starting from zero and having to go get prints made to figure out what you shot is a pain in the ass.
If she doesn't give a shit about being a photographer, it doesn't matter what fucking camera she gets, just go on Ebay and get her the cheapest 'cute little' silver and black SLR from russia or something, it won't work, and that way she can go around taking snapshits with her phone and telling her friends "yeah it's sooooo esoteric being able to capture moments like that" while feeling like she has any semblance of skill
