Anyone who shoots down one method or the other (be it film or digital) is fucking stupid and is just trying to feel better about themselves, even if their own photos are terrible.
I personally enjoy film a lot more because of a few things:
>Prioritizing
I'm trying to stop myself from taking 200 photos of the same thing instead of working on a single thought-out one. I'm also trying to prioritize my shots now, I've had so many times where I had it all set up and ready to fire, and just decided against it.
>Editing
I enjoy the minimal editing because I feel like the composition and content is infinitely more important than the post edits. Think about it, how often do you get complimented for your editing?? Also, I'm fucking lazy and don't have the time for that.
>Slower process
I've been trying to wean myself off of instant gratification, and this is a good outlet for that. I also GREATLY enjoy that moment where you forget what you took until you get your photos back. Even better if one or two turn out to be even better than you expected.
>Technology
For some reason, I don't enjoy the idea of carrying around a huge pricey piece of tech on the streets no matter how sturdy they are. Film cameras can't really become outdated anymore either, compared to DSLR cameras where I'd feel compelled to keep buying new ones.
Any kind of photography is valid, just stop giving a shit about what other people think. You do it for *you* and that's all that really matters. I'm purely a hobbyist with a single lens, so I know I don't have to have the best equipment to have fun. Don't let jaded photographers poison you, just have fun.
