>>3542340>but everyone I meet who shoots DSLR today is fascinated with my a7iii. People are always fascinated with gear they don't own. The same thing would happen if you walked in with a Mamiya 645 system or an old Leica or a Canon T-90.
>And all of my old photojourno peers want the a9, especially after Sony brought a ton of them to the NCAA basketball tournament this year.Tried the A9. I will preface this by saying it is a capable camera. But...
* The EVF sucks because EVFs still suck. Bad color, horrible and harsh contrast, brightness never matches the scene, smearing when panning.
* I found the stuttering during high speed shooting to be more obtrusive than mirror blackout. Could be because I'm used to the latter, but to me it makes tracking action more difficult.
* I wasn't disappointed in the AF system but I also was not impressed. The super duper mirrorless track anything with an eye AF missed a number of shots, and honestly my keeper rate with a pro Canon AF body is just as good. I WILL ADMIT that someone who is not familiar with DSLR AF and tracking techniques would probably have a higher keeper rate with the A9. But it was NOT by any means perfect or 100% or magical.
I also think 20 fps is a fucking waste of time, so many shots to go through. "Is this shot perfect of this one that's 2cm to the right?" Utter bullshit. With an OVF and a short shutter release I can track the subject and trip the shutter at the moment that looks good, not video tape the scene and spend hours sperging out over which frame is best later that night. But that's not a complaint against the A9 or mirrorless any way, just a general observation about high FPS.
