tried taking pictures of lewis hamilton but only managed to get pictures of the williams (slower =easier)

Also shoot from a different angle
In the angle you captured the vehicle is quickest through your frame, you're just not gonna get a frozen in place shot like this.
Your focus also seems to be set on the rain gutter rather than the car

I'd try getting a bit closer to the action as well, to remove most of that fence that's in the foreground.

Try from a different angle, or at a low speed corner. For the fences I get as close as possible to make them disappear with the zoom

Try when the car is passing, instead of staying still and taking the pic, acompany the movement of the car with the lens following the car as you take the picture. It takes practice till you get the right movement speed. This also works if you want to take at lower speed, to get the effect of the movement in the background and the car will look 'still' without looking like its parked.
