What exactly is the reason for making it so dark? I have a photographer in my Instagram feed, and he is doing the same. Is it a style? Or do you hope to recover detail? I always struggle to see anything on my smartphone screen.

Well, my intention was to make it nice and simple B&W. Like I mentioned, I was using a god awful terrible shit screen which has the worst colours I've ever seen. I couldn't see any detail in the black regions.

Now that I'm on my phone, I see how dark it is. It has this spooky/eerie vibe which I kinda like. The dark areas are kinda boring anyway so I don't see a point in brightening them up. The misty waterfall is the main focus so I like how it's prominent.

Happy accident, I guess.

Because the photo already had cool tones. Instead of trying to make it vibrant and warm (like the ones before), I just leaned into what was already there.

I did most of the work in Camera Raw. I started with color correction in the Basic tab and then I isolating colors using HSL, most notably yellow and green. I then applied Split Toning, adding lots of blue to the highlights and some red to the shadows. Lastly, I gave it some some chromatic noise, did some minor re-framing and added the letterbox.
