Not saying he's not good at it, but the way these vids work, is that they deliberately pick pictures that they know will work with limited tools they use. McKinnon will find just the right pic on which one of his presets will work well, and do some minor adjustments on it, so it'll look like an awesome edit, and his customers will buy his presets, and throw them on their own shots, but while they may work on an image, they won't on a whole sets, so they'll look for other preset elsewhere. And this guy does the same, he picks the right picture, then do minor hue shifts to it.
He does give two vague but good advices. Study films, and have consistent edit of your images. You can study still images as well, it's same thing if you ask me. The fact is that you can learn a lot from anything you encounter. File sizes don't matter at all. Open image in editor and observe histograms. Colour images are always comprised of three colours only. Blue, Red, Green. Each has it's own histogram, from them you can deduce most colour edits that were done on image.
He's also omitting the most important advice, shoot good images. He's got solid composition and colours from the start, but he won't tell you what was his thought process taking them.
