Bugs freak me out and I cannot bring myself to be near one let alone touch one.
The gf is already making fun of me because of it.

How to get over fear of bugs?

Two options:

1. Use macro as a way of slowly systematically desensitizing yourself to bugs. It's quite natural to be wary of them. Many have very nasty stings and bites. We have evolved to be scared of spiders and snakes. People who weren't scared of them died 100.000 years ago

2. Don't shoot bugs. Crystals, electronics, everyday objects can look interesting with macro lenses. You'll have to get creative with your lighting.

I paid ~1k€ for mine, almost brand new from a pro photographer who only used it a few times to shoot whales.

The 300PF has the twin advantage of shorter minimum focus distance (the ED-IF one is 250cm) and lower weight.
I’m not sure about the ED-IF’s reproduction ratio with and without teleconverters.

Guys. OP is ascared of creepy crawlies, shooting bugs from 30m away isn't really helping. lel.

Spiders can jump a little but with a 105mm macro you should be safe. I got bit by a spider once, my face blew up like a balloon. Would not recommend.

Just keep at it. Was afraid of heights as a kid, couldn't get near a ladder, and had nightmares falling. Kept working at it as a challenge, hardly any problems nowdays. I seek heights as a challenge, climb, worked high riser jobs. Still get goose bumps, and adrenaline rush, but I see it as a positive.
