any of you guys use SSDs for scratch disks when editing photos & video? if yes, how much has it improved workflow for you?

The only thing I don't use SSDs for is bulk storage on my NAS. Laptop, iPad, etc. are all using NVMe SSDs. It's a *huge* quality of life improvement over spinning rust. Almost everything goes noticeably a lot faster.

SATA SSDs are a big improvement over SATA HDDs, and NVMe SSDs are a big improvement over SATA SSDs.

you still need a top notch CPU + decent amounts of ram, but if you've only been using HDDs then it's like magic.

It's not a huge improvement on photoshop unless you're batch processing but it's a huge improvement on Premiere Pro.

I've never needed a scratch disk but have heard that helps on the more intensive work flows (terabytes of processing videos)

No one cares, pic related, my 3 node AF-8 class vSAN. This cluster has more RAM than you have flash. 24x 480GB Seagate 600 Pros, 3x 800GB HGST SN200s. All mixed use enterprise class disks with power loss protection.

Thats because you have no RAM. it takes my servers a couple of minutes just to get through POST.

HDDs are stupid cheap. Setting up two 3TB HDDs in Raid 1 is cheaper and more reliable than one 3TB SSD.
