Best beginner camera?

I'm looking into starting photography and I saw that the most recommended ones were the Nikon D5600 and Sony a6000.
Which one out of the two could be the best purchase? And what about other models (Mirrorless or DSLR)?

Mirrorless is much better for beginners, the evf shows how the image will change as you adjust your settings, whereas a dslr is just a window and you have to predict how it will translate into a digital image.

Also, nikon f mount is pretty much dead, whereas Sonys mount is the most supported in the industry.

First of all, use the gear thread.

Your initial purchase will mostly depend on the lens selection, that is, the lenses you plan on using.
Anything will suffice, but since you're just starting, just get one of Canon / Nikon DSLRs with the kit lens. These would be xx0D models for Canon, and D5x00 models for Nikon.
Why Canon / Nikon? The greatest lens selection, with many of them being very affordable for beginners.
But that's only half of the story - start shooting in raw format, and practice editing as well.

I'd go with the a6000. They're cheap new and really inexpensive used. It's mirrorless, which is where the market is going. You'll be able to see how settings affect your photo in real time thanks to the EVF, though you should still pay mind to the light meter when exposing.

The a6000 is steeply discounted right now and includes kit lenses:

A drawback is if you want to shoot video. The a6000 doesn't have a mic input, so if you want the camera to record decent audio, you'll need a hotshoe mic like the Sony ECMXYST1M. They're $107 on Amazon and Adorama right now (normally $158).

You're going to have to learn to edit. I believe you can get the Sony version of Capture One with the purchase of a new a6000. Start shooting raw early.

It would have to resolve twice as much detail to beat a crop kit lens, and 4 times as much to beat a ff kit lens. You are wildly incorrect in your implication that yours is of any use

and you can get ibis on plenty of sony bodies, kind of a gimmick though unless you never shoot people or animals or go outside in anything windier than a breeze, which is probably why you are so happy with it.

Because medium format doesn't have the lenses I use, also, for a basic rig for something that's actually approaching medium format, and not some shit that's not even 50% larger than ff, starts at $50k. A new full frame body with ibis is about 2% of that.

I'm not ashamed to say I don't want to spend $50k on a camera.

Image stabilization doesn't mean shit if you're shooting a moving subject like a person. Anything below 1/50th for a stationary person will lead to blur, and god forbid they blink if you're shooting at 1/30th or lower. IBIS is a meme thats useful for videomakers and people with telephoto lens addictions.

Okay, the GH2 was the last camera Panasonic produced with their own sensors. It was also slightly oversized and was multi-aspect-ratio. Sony didn't make that sensor at all, it was Panasonic's technology.
The GH5S is most recently another camera that, although it still uses a Sony sensor base I believe (as Panasonic has used Sony sensors since the GH3), is a sort of throwback to the days when Panasonic had their own sensors in their digital camera lineup; hence the tweaks they made to the sensor technology for the GH5S (dual-ISO, multi aspect ratio again, finally—a video-centered camera, of course, but still very good for photography as well.)
I wasn't sure what the original post of >>3582266 was implying, but I did want to point out that Sony's successful sensor sales in no way makes their sensors better, specifically for MFT cameras. They're simply more available because they hold a vast market share of the sensor production business. With the proper assets, companies that produce MFT cameras can also produce better MFT sensors. They just don't choose to do so because it's way more expensive at this point.

It doesn't need resolve more, its way better corrected making it sharper in the corners of the image whilst the sony 16-50mm and 28-70mm corner's are blurry.

Lol, the final image resolution from your camera and kit lens is marginally over half what the a6000 and crop kit lens manages.

And no, i is is a gimmick because most photographers take photos of things that are in motion. And ibis softens shots compared to a tripod and remote release. So it's useless if you're taking photos of moving things and useless if you're taking photos of still things properly.

Took me about 2 or 3 years to outgrow it. I'd probably still keep it if it had IBIS, and use it as a backup.

Pair the a6000 with any number of sigma lenses (16, 30, 56 or their cheap f2.8 guys like the 30, 60) and you are set.

Seriously, for as much shit as sony had got for "having no lenses", it's SO much better than fuji right now in terms of price, quality, and selection. With sony you can buy an a6000 and a fucking SHARP sigma 60mm f2.8, for fucking cheap.

I wouldn't recommend anything OTHER than a mirrorless to a beginner.

What do you think the meter reading is for? Your goal on any digital camera should always be a correct ETTR exposure for maximum flexibility in post. It's not that hard and you don't need "muh preview!" to get it.

It probably won't offer fully manual aperture, shutter and focus control, lens adapters, filter thread, an optical viewfinder and tripod mount.

I'm not 100% serious, of course. But an A650 IS offers a lot that you'd otherwise have to carry three times the bulk to get in any other camera. And it still only costs "fuck it" money.

you can buy sony a7 for 400 bucks on ebay just add here any fast prime you can afford and live blissful

even further: you can buy minolta 50 1.8 for 100 bucks, it's great manual prime. 500 bucks and voila: you get top notch quality mirrorles full-frame.

so go used, no matter what vendor. used gear cost from 3x to 10x times less sometimes even more. so you can but x10 better gear for same price. why even bothering buying new?
