The state of affairs that once existed- strictly enforced monogamy with severe punishments from deviation of this societal code - harmed that 20% of men the most. Instead of achieving what they would naturally be given to them in our distant, bestial past - almost complete dominance of sexual encounter and mating - they were forced to strict pair bonding. True, that 20% of males were given the most beautiful of women, but this assortative mating still led to even the most ugliest and base man awarded a wife provided he was of good character and diligence.
Females believed that they too were oppressed by this system of monogamy. And they were oppressed - for their own good. Once given free reign in sexual agency, they did what was predicted - attempt to accrue the benefits they had gained under the system (shared wealth, the benefits of society, safety for themselves and their children) while also attempting to gain the attention of the male elite. As a result, they now neither have children, the attention of those males, or safety.
