how much worse is the 24-70mm f2.8 gmaster than the 85mm f1.4 gmaster?

Really wanted a 50mm lens but they don't have a gmaster in that prime zone. Thinking of resorting to the zoom 24-70mm...

Zooms are always a compromise.

To their credit, the only zoom which isn't a bit of dissapointment compared to primes is the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2. That is literally a "bag of primes". Effectively flawless.

It's a 28-70mm that's weak in resolution wide open. There are tests available several months now

Get the 50mm F1,4 Zeiss.
It's every bit as good as the top GM primes.

50 Zeiss
same tier as 135mm GM, and 24 GM.

I own both of these lenses. The 85mm is sharper and has more contrast. The bokeh is great. The AF is slow and noisy because it has an older technology focus motor. I mostly use my 85 for portraits, so AF isn't a drawback. If you have more specific questions about these two lenses, ask away.

If what you really want is a 50mm, get the 1.4: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1264965-REG/sony_sel50f14z_planar_t_fe_50mm.html. It will probably be my next lens. I've been incredibly impressed with my 16-34 f/4, which is also a Sony-Zeiss partnership lens.

I have no fucking idea how you people are so oblivious to the general consensus among people who've used the lenses. Literally everybody says that the focusing is way, way worse than native. I've heard that they're sharp, but that it doesn't really matter unless you're willing to manually focus because AF is so inconsistent and shitty.

Literally go take any of your "better than GM" smegma lenses and watch some comparison videos of people who actually use them side by side. Not people who just picked up the smegma and are like "wow, this GOOD FOR MONEY."

If you have to ask you won't see a difference and should really focus on improving you- not your gear.

Ask what you can do for the camera or lens, not what the camera or lens can do for you. Once you hit that point where the camera or lens is the hindrance (spoiler: it's most definitely not), then you'll know what you need and won't have to make these shitty ass threads to ask.

sigma 50 1.4 is fast autofocus and incredibly sharp. its so perfect the photos almost look sterile unless your subject is very interesting. its cheapish too
