>>3599265>an art that is too easyWhile I agree that we're saturated with imagery everywhere we go, online, downtown, just driving around town and seeing billboards etc., I'd say photography is still not that easy. Every shot requires a somewhat unique take, usually. It may seem easy because we learned how to do it and take it for granted, but getting really strong images relies on not only your technical skills and a trained eye, but sometimes luck plays a huge part like the placement of something in the frame or the kind of light that really makes it a home run.
But I don't even think the difficulty level should be the point. Like this guy said
>>3599314, pleasing yourself is a nice goal to have unless you're looking for paid work with clients. You can enjoy something even if it's sort of easy. Bike riding and running aren't challenging in the sense that you have to grind away intense technical or motor skills to learn to do it competently. You do, however, need to actually have the discipline to get off your butt and do those things, just like photography. Not to mention the myriad things that can go wrong or unforeseen while you're out in the field.
>>3599576If a shot has horrible composition or bad light or boring subject (subjective) it should be no easier to critique. Even if the problems are many, go ahead and list them out. Otherwise, I sadly have to agree with the anon that's saying maybe your critic skills aren't really that great if you can't even tell someone *why* their shot is so bad.
