looking for a good AF 35mm point and shoot, specifically for street photography

However I'm too fucking poor to get a contax g2, etc so I'm looking for something with quick, good autofocus and built in flash

Any recommendations?

You don't need and don't WANT AutoFocus for street shooting
It will unironically slow you down
You want manual focus, a normal prime or better 35mm set on hyperfocal distance so everything is in focus and snap away

Considering you don't know fuck all about cameras but you're throwing around a relatively obscure brand name like Contax tells me what you really want is to just buy that camera because you saw someone holding one in an insta selfie.

Just buy what you want for the reason you want it, instead of rationalizing yourself into throwing money away on something you really won't use for more than a single weekend afternoon.

There is no way you get some AF point&shoot with a 50mm that lets you focus at that distance. You're looking for something with a 28mm but without AF. Here's 21mm roughly at the distance you mentioned.

A FED 5c, maybe a 35 or a cheap Voigtlander UW (I use a 15mm f4.5) and some Tri-X 400 and you're set and since it's an old camera no one will think you're a creep so you can get in people's faces and hide in plain sight

People ask me about it when I'm carrying it and its an opportunity to shoot, and that whole setup is optically superior and less expensive that overpriced meme 35mm point and shoots.

You can pick up an Oly XA for under $200 which boasts a more user friendly experience, the 15mm alone is $380 in m39 mount.

The thing is with these point and shoots is all about the user experience, they're brain dead to use that's why people like them so much.
OP doesn't wanna get into learning Sunny 16 or zone focusing they just want a camera that works, not to mention the meter cell in most FED 5c's are probably dead by now.

I paid 300 flat for my 15 with the finder. Soviet 35mm lenses are cheaper though, I liked the VF patch on the 5c.

The 15 is so wide you dont really need to focus unless its under 2m away. And the entire setup fits in my coat pocket easily.

I was talking about meme shit like the T4, but you could find an XA for under 200 easy, I paid 50 for mine with the flash.

What im getting at here, there are other cameras that have way better IQ and cost less because they haven't been hipster taxed, even the Yashica T2 is a good candidate and dat Zeiss glass tho. You can find the T2 under 100 easily and they haven't been Terry taxed yet.

If you can afford the lenses, the g1 is a fraction of the price of the g2 and just as good.
Don't know much about AF compacts, but don't obsess over it, and get any late canon/nikon/olympus. They're far more similar than are different. Don't obsess about whoch lens is 10%, or even 50% sharper, nobody will be able to tell in hyperfocally focused, motion blurred street shots.
Obsessing about similar era lenses within a format is a pointless exercise, you can get much better results with a cheap lens on the next bigger format, than an expensive lens on the smaller format.
