Fuxji Xpro1 - help?

I just got my Fuji Xpro1 with a summicron. I've been trying it out and it sucks! It has a weird greyness to it.

I'm messing with the color settings right now (they were all set to 0) and it gets a bit better but meh. What am I doing wrong?

I normally shoot a Pentax K70 with a takumar lens.

Are these jpegs of the RAW files? Because that looks normal in terms of the flatness or "greyness".

Well 200 is the standard setting on the camera. I don't usually go above 200, I use flash if it's dark.

Get it off manual exposure for fuck's sake. You literally have middle grey in the majority of your scene, even the shittiest lightmeter from the '50s operated by a child will give you a better exposure than trying to guess it.

It's not the exposure. It renders differently on the same exposure. The Fuji is like the flat mode on my K70, but with a bit more shadows.

Granted this is all in low light indoors so all pics are going to suck anyway, I'll take it out tomorrow and see how it does.

Have you considered restoring it to factory settings to rule out any weird settings by the previous owner?

That's a good idea. I'll try it out. Either way I'm sure it will do okay in daylight. I browsed some sample shots and they were pretty good. It's probably just me being paranoid over trying a new system.

ITT: People who don't know anything about light metering and the objective brightness scale of EV.

OP, check out this link:

The "Brightness" is indicating that the light meter has detected that as the brightness level of the scene. That's very dark. It has nothing to do with exposure comp, which was set to 0 in the picture.

Update: I solved it!

I went into white balance settings and changed the "white balance shift" to blue +6. Now in good light it performs similar to my K70.

I still have problems with camera shake, but it might have to do with that the camera is so much lighter than the K70.

My impression so far is that the Xpro1 needs sunlight/good light to perform well. It doesn't seem to do so well under heavy clouds.

But at least I got rid of the horrible yellow tint. The grayness isn't there, could be due to good light or the change in the white balance.

I'm currently using color +2 and sharpness +2. I'm might post sample images later if I get to it.

Don't know about your Xpro1, but in my X-E2 there's a setting quite hidden called 'film simulation': it's basically a preset filter option regarding colors: you might want to check (if you have it on your fuji too) what it's at?

I messed with the "white balance shift" and then it was fine. I still get a little bit gray in bad light but it's not so bad.

I went out and leicafagged with the summicron today. I might post pics later and ask if I got it right, a bit of a "commercial look".

If you are shooting in jpeg just check the FILM SIMULATION and see if you have it on..you probably have it on neutral setting like Pro neg etc.
This has nothing to do with exposure.

Yes! Thank you. So at least someone sees what I mean. So the color noise reduction is simply too aggressive.

I've also noticed that highlights are weird. They look almost digital when overexposed in daylight.

I'll try to reduce the noise reduction and see if it helps.

There is no reducing the nr, it is baked into every raw and jpeg to hide the false color issues that xtrans causes.

And yes, fuji purposefully underexposes its images and pulls the highlights.

Just sell it and get a sony, the you will have unfucked raws and much more affordable lenses.

I've read that NR only applies to the JPEG and not the RAW, but I've read the other way as well. Also the issue you're describing is supposedly more pronounced on the XTrans 2 than the 3.

If you want to post some noise reduction JPEG vs RAW low light stuff, you can. If not, I'll try and get a comparison put up this afternoon.

For what it's worth, low light stuff indoors is always grainy newsprint on my x-t1, but I've always chalked that up to having to shoot ISO 6400.

Put a tape measure in low light, pancake lens with dogshit light transmission, f5.6, 1/180 shutter, and ISO 6400 for maximum Post Toasty graininess.

Couple of things:
1. The raw is SOOC aside from upping the exposure to match the Fuji RAWs. It's obvious the in-camera JPEG software is upping exposure by about 1.3 stops and saturation by a good amount, along with noise reduction.
2. This raw is only as good as the demosaic algorithm in my copy of Affinity Photo, and it's also converted into JPG for posting to 4chins, so you know, YMMV.
3. NR -2 is barely, barely any noisier than NR 0 on the x-trans2 sensor. I've heard the x-trans3 sensor is more pronounced. Here it barely does anything, if at all, except ever so slightly in the highlight on the tape measure's body.

My $.02: shoot RAW if you don't want the waxiness unless your lighting is so marginal you just can't stand the noise.

Necro posting for x-pro users. I have the chance to upgrade from an aging x-t1 to a friend's x-pro2 he ended up not digging for the cost of a new lens.

Assuming I don't care about a used x-t3's faster AF and the extra resolution, what would I be giving up by just going with the pro2?

I appreciate being able to shoot with both eyes open by having a viewfinder on the left. But I never shot Leica's, so the OVF doesn't sound like a plus or minus to me, just this thing I don't really understand. Can someone who's shot both the x-t and x-pro lines tell me what they really dialiked about either would be?
