Wide angle lenses are a particular area of gear where there are many variables to consider, such as some of the the typical tradeoffs, especially in full frame wide angle design, of chromabs vs. distortions vs sharpness. Portraiture is very gear bound, especially when it comes to photography for high end media design, where medium format is king.
I could go on, but sufficed to say, gear probably doesn't matter all that much to /p/ because //p is full of shitty photogs. Take Sonytard for example. He constantly shills Sony but never shows anything of any artistic value. Same with Olympanon. It doesn't matter what gear either of them use, or practically anyone else on this board.
I've seen better compositions in the digishit threads than most of the people who post pics with EXIF data showing $1500+ bodies and lenses, for example.
