If they had actually done the intermediate screw AF phase like Nikon, reusing preexisting optical designs, perhaps they'd still be around in some form today. Instead they had to convince their customers to forget about cameras like the ST, RX and Aria and exemplary lenses like the 35mm f/1.4, 28mm f/2.0 and 35-70mm f/3.4 and move on to the Contax N and its insanely expensive, but not much better than the competition lenses. Perhaps they should have digitalised the G mount instead. Now that's a thought.
