So, I want to get into large format ( 4x5 ) photography. But I don't know anything about photograpy.
Where should I start?

Start by thinking about why you want to learn your basics on a system that costs five bucks per shot.

Micro four thirds is in 4/3 which basically makes is a better large format, even though it's small (and super portable)
You just need to mount a vintage d mount lense to it and it'll outperform most medium format cameras

This. Medium format hurts at 3 bucks minimum from film to print. A large format camera eats 20 dollar bills and is nearly unusable below f/11.

Not OP but always wondered if possible or the best way to mimic medium format? I thought maybe those stitched panorama shots but only did those with landscape. Is the effect viable when shooting people? I saw a few shots from a wedding photog using that method and it seemed to have a really nice depth/3d pop kinda like OP pics.

Small format. Digital. Literally anything else that doesn't involve movements and the most specialized and expensive developing or scanning solutions. It's not cheap, it's not fun in the sense normal people use the word, it's what happens when you find medium format and all that comes with it insufficient for their autism and need for control. A number of alternative processes can't be done otherwise. It's all about a level of control most fags don't need or can't even handle. Personally I don't feel like fucking with it but sometimes the thought of movements, f/64, and developing negatives by sight keeps me up at night. Not to mention gum bichromate and bromoil transfers. Wet plate goes a little to far, those guys are mad genii.

Yes. If you google 'brenizer' or 'bokehrama' you can find a whole bunch of examples.

Another viable option to mimic medium format is getting one of the 0,7x Baveyes adapters from Kipon, but they cost like $700.

Well if you shoot large format aside from portraits the DOF is really a hurdle you need to work with. But critically you will learn to thoroughly check the alignments. My recommendation for a LF camera is to buy one that is sturdy and easy to set up in a way that you can make sure your ground glass is parallel to the front stand with ease and it won't move when you insert backs.

You can't tell the difference in scans under a billion megapixels between medium and large format and MF lenses are bright enough to get nearly the same obscenely shallow depth of field, because they're more than two stops brighter than the average 4x5 lens. If the words pleasant background separation at f/32 don't conjure terror, large format isn't for you.

If you shoot on x-ray film, you can get it down to 20-ish cents a shot. Then, when you're good, you can shoot the expensive stuff.

Anyways, don't get into 4x5. Spend time pouring over photography books and manuals. Read Ansel Adams' series of instructional books. Then, when you have a lot of theory down, do some digital. After all that, try some 4x5.

Start from pinhole photography on paper negatives.

You have to purchase a packet of soft contrast photo paper of the size you fancy, developer and fixer. You of course are able to research and improvise the rest if you have any hope for actually getting into large format.

With a 24mp sensor, Ive gotten great results with far below 140 shots. For people I stitch somewhere between 9 to 12 shots. If I do a wide pano of landscape, I either shoot 3 shots for a quick pano or somewhere around 9~12 for sky, foreground, middle areas.
I don't print so I avoid 100+ images...sitting around waiting for LR or PS to stitch is no fun lol.

I do it by myself and for myself. Nobody knows that I use a 4x5 camera. I don't tell anyone. I just like fucking around with the movements. I shoot x-ray film, so it's about as cheap as MF, shot-per-shot. My camera is aluminum; easy to transport, not very cumbersome, and quick to set up. All of my photos are shit, and it's fine. It was just something to learn how to do, and another way to waste my time. Cost me about as much as any other film camera.
