The main problem has always been the sensor size. And so far all their attempts with sensor arrays has been the same shit, all the cameras are facing in 90º to the smartphone back, and they don't give a good result.
But I thought a good way to make a sensor array work.
First, each individual sensor in the array would have a tele lens.
Then the array would be placed on a flexible mount that can make the array go from flat to convex and also to concave.
If you need a wide angle, make the array go convex. Then you merge all the individual images into a single one. The camera would resize the image automatically, decreasing the SNR.
If you need a tele, you make the array go concave, this would require some sync with AF.
Then all the small cameras would focus on to the same area.
When you merge all the images of the same area, could decrease the SNR.
