The D5300 does not have AF Fine Tune to fix this focus issue, so you may end up having to return your lens several times until you get one that works perfectly, or start opening up your camera and try to adjust the focus yourself, which is what I had to do, since the lens was out of warranty/return window when I realized the problem.
This lens is lightweight and sharp, just make sure you print out a focus test sheet and compare sharpness between focusing using Live View, and normal viewfinder focusing. If Live View results in a much sharper/accurate focus, the lens has this problem.
