They all look the same with only slight form factor differences and either black or grey coloring. The only plus here is that is it MF. Too bad I'd need to get a loan to get a new one. Seems used ones are in the $3k-$4k range though, no lens.

Yeah except it's got quite the well depth/dynamic range and fuck-off massive pixels. Plus it's sensitive across a way broader spectrum than a normal MF sensor. Plus today's MF digital sensors aren't even close to 6X6. It's one sexy beast. Surprised it's a cc'd though but I'm guessing because the want long exposures they care less about readout/shot noise and way more about thermals and quantum efficiency making sCMOS the wrong choice for this application.

Obviously.
When I said it's a medium format CCD sensor, I meant that it's a CCD sensor the same size as the common 6x6 format used in film cameras.
I'm kind of shocked that the sensor in that regards is a relatively common format, not some weird fuckhuge custom format.

Current production MF is FF 645 so it's not that far off.
Dicomed had their Bigshot that used a true oversized 60x60mm CCD that was supposedly sourced from the satellite industry, but it had terrible performance for its size due to the ancient technology that was used.

Yeah, it's really just the shell that is lacking aesthetically because Nikon was too cheap to make the plates from brass or aluminium-copper alloy.
It'd be quite a seller if they pulled their head out of their ass and made a traditionally styled Z mount camera with a matching adapter, but they won't.

The cameras themselves aren't very impressive in terms of features.
The only thing special about Phase is the MF backs.

That's exactly what it is; it's an adapter plate with integrated shift movements.
It's also mirrorless so they get to use optically symmetrical digital Rodenstock lenses on it.

ah here we go again. with digital mf hassel you would get noise all over high isos and so much price that you will never be able to go outside with it. just take a6100 + 56 1.4 and you will get CHEAP ultraquality images and a camera which you can take with you everywhere. americans are so stupid. sometimes i wonder how companies like intel and amd or apple and google appeared in usa, you can't think further than two steps ahead

I've only been to the USA once and I live almost on the opposite point of the globe...

I'm not saying that you can't take great pictures with an a6100 but if you can take great pics with one (56mm on APS-C isn't the most versatile focal length though) it is likely that you can also to take "better" ones with the X1D but it will definitely depend on what you like to shoot.

you cannot

high isos are too lame

with tripos and iso 100 you can acjieve some result but that is the only occasion. most of the time fuy with 6100+56 will outperform you 1 to 10

That's why I mentioned that the type of stuff you shoot matters, MF ("small" MF like Fuji/Leica/Pentax/Hasselblad X or actual MF like Hasselblad H/Phase One) is mostly suited to studio or tripod-based stuff.

I shoot with a Z7 so I don't really have a horse in this Hasselblad/Sony argument.
(well, anyway Sony wins as they supply the sensors to almost everyone)
