is the olympus tg-5 a good choice if I want something which does macro and fits in my pocket? How does the ricoh line of tough cameras fair in comparison?

I’ve decided to go Fujifilm. I’m a jpg shooter and a lazy editor and the film sims are just so valuable to me. Also the shutter is quieter and can be made to be silent without having to go onto live view. Lastly, the 35mm F2 is water resistant whereas the Pentax 35mm isn’t. Oh and it’s going to weigh 200 grams lighter.

I do plan to use the XT2 with a vintage Pentax 28mm lens but won’t be able to use automatic aperture like the KP can. A small price to pay.

Sorry Pentax bros. I just don’t see a future with DSLRs.

How do you know the fujifilm jpeg profiles are better than Pentax jpeg profiles?

Ricoh have smaller sensor. Tg's are amongst the best fully sealed cameras, but they won't do quality macro. You need proper intechangable lens cameras for macro. Or some kind of a fore lens on pnshoot camera as described in this article:

what about it is shit? Editing is an important part (when necessary and to the artist's criteria). It can improve and change an image in many ways, comparable to "adding flavour" to food. Images can be as bland as you like, of course, but they may be vastly improved by some simple adjustements.

Any aps-c suggestions?
I searched aps-c online and found things like
Canon - EOS Rebel T7i DSLR Camera - with EF-S 18-55mm IS STM Lens
and Canon m50 with - EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM for both around 800$
and
Sony - Alpha a6400 Mirrorless Camera - with E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens for 999$

Something like one of those?
Or should i go with Sony Alpha a7II Camera with 28-70mm Lens for 999$?

What are some "better" choices for same price or maybe a couple 100$ less or so?
I have about 1,000$, and would like to save a couple hundred if possible.
I don't need some 600$ low class camera.

I highly recommend it. It is rather rewarding and you can do all kinds of neat things. Just don't expect perfect IQ and instead revel in the lomo-esqueness of it. Though, sometimes you can make something that has fairly good IQ enough to surprise you. It is an addictive hobby.

Looks for "for parts" and "lens lot" to get good deals on stuff you can take apart or even repair. Even dead broken disposable cameras can have stuff worth playing around with depending on what camera you mainly use.

Good hybrids. You get cineD at best instead of vlog, some advanced high dynamic range filming modes, and some higher framerates for slomo, but still retain 4k at 10bit, quality software, flip up screens, and a bit of control over the end picture regarding sharpness, contrast, saturation and noise reduction. Or, if you're good without ibis, you can still go the old gh4 with full features, thought I think you still need to pay up extra for vlog. Big downside is auto focus. They only recently got their shit together, so you better get good focus pulling.

A vintage Nikon 35-200mm f/3.5-4.5 Zoom-Nikkor AI-S. It is all manual, but has good and consistent IQ through the zoom range. There is some CA, but nothing that any image editor can't instantly remove without issue.

Correct. I don't have lx100, so I can't judge. If it had something like 2x magnification mode while shooting, it would make a big difference. You usually need quality evf or optical viewfinder, and/or some focus helpers to judge your focus. He knew what he was doing, used flash and diffusion to his advantage. It's more of an example of what can be possible on compact camera.

I've noticed that everytime they draw a camera it always has the same look, like they aren't just 'drawing' one but actually modeling it after a real design.
So, which TLR does this look like to you?

I think it looks like either a Yashica-A, or maybe a Duaflex of some kind.

So what do you think it is?
It's obviously not a Rollei, since it doesn't have the small knobs on either side of the lens.
The emblem looks like of similar to a Yashica, but the small upper lens is more reminiscent of a pseudo-TLR like the Duaflex.
A cheap psuedo-TLR seems out of character though.

The Halina A1? Looks pretty close.

Apparently the Halina A1 is a copy of the Ricohflex, which was the worlds first mass-produced TLR.
That sounds significant enough to be reference worthy.

I bought a Sony a6400 recently. I love the camera and love the lenses.

Now: Looking back at my decision:

I should have went with the a6600 for the ibis (but it wasn't discounted when I bought my cam - you can pick up a body for 1200 now)

Otherwise, if I could fast-forward, I'd save my money up for the new Fujifilm Xt-4. If you want to stick with APS-C holy hell in a handbag it looks so good.

Why does it seem like there are two kinds of Japanese camera sellers on ebay:

That's just focal length preference. It's entirely on you to decide.

The GM will be more compact in the bag because external zoom.
The G has the weather sealing of internal zoom.

I started shooting 35mm on an Elan 7 and now an EOS 3 and they're nice complements to my other film cameras. So to that end I've found that I can get very acceptable image quality from not-so-expensive lenses since I'm scanning from film instead of shooting on digital.

I've got 3 lenses for the system, a 50mm 1.8 STM, 28-135mm, and a 17-35mm 2.8. I use the 28-135mm when I can only stuff the camera with one lens in the bag (and I can throw the 50mm in a pocket elsewhere too), but there are other times when I can fit a 3 lens kit in the bag with my other stuff.

I've found the long end on the 28-135mm to be fun, but if I take the 17-35 and 50mm then I don't really need the wider focal lengths. So I was wondering if the 70-300mm DO IS USM would be a decent pickup. Seems like it's gotten pretty cheap nowadays, like only $300, and it looks compact and comparable in size to the other lenses I've got. It has IS but it seems a little slow. Have also been reading about sharpness issues but not sure how bad it actually is. Anyone have any experience with this lens? Or should I pass up on it and keep using the 28-135 as my telephoto-ish lens?

I'm dslrff/m43. I'd probably look closely at fujis and their standard and wide zoom lenses, then decide based on what they offer. I did look a lot at mirrorless ff when nikon/canon and panasonic came out with their cams, then when I saw that all the lenses are still heavy, huge and extremely expensive on high end line, I completely lost interest in them.
m43 has turned into my main system. Initially just bought it for macro, now I've almost a complete portable prime set for it, only missing 12mm f2. What I am interested right now is Sigma fp with 45mm f2.8 dg dn. I would buy it solely to use with that lens.

Nikon's new idea is to make the best F1,8 lense they possibly can, regardless of how big and fat the lens becomes.

Sometimes they hit a homerun, like with the 50mm.

Sometimes they hit a failure, like their 24mm, which not only is bigger and fatter than the Sony 24GM, but unfortunately also smaller aperture and less sharp than the GM.

Fx mount was too small from the beginning. And new lenses are made for ultimate performance, and pixel peepers. It's theoretically really easy to make small z mount lenses. They should come with time if they don't go under sooner.

The more you "make use" of Z-mount width, the bigger the lens will be.
Also, the more you make use of Z-mount width, the larger you make the angle of incident (The further away from 0 degree angle of incident, the crappier your image will tend to be.)

RP had very nice ergonomics, in that respect canons always felt nice for me, for instance the M6m2 would have incredible ergos were it not for the lack of evf and, well, ef-m lenses. It's funny how it dropped in price like a rock.
I was enamored with the DO for a while, until I looked at its performance.
I've never owned it personally, but from what I've read and seen, it's significantly worse than even the 70-300mm IS f/4-5.6, especially at the long end.
The IS unit is also supposedly under performing.

You likely wouldn't have too much of an issue with the lesser sharpness, but the IS is definitely something you want with film.
I'd recommend the 70-300mm non-L/DO or any of the 70-200mm IS lenses with a 2x TC

Well yes, like the 400 DO? MK 1 and 2? and Canon also have a large number of DO patents for longer lenses.
400mm f4 DO MKII is a great travel lens, Pro lvl AF speed, not as great as the f2.8 but better then a zoom

I own an EOS RP and I love its ergonomics. If needed, it comes with the grip extension.

Fuji ergonomics are what I'd look out for as they can be wonky on the xt20/30.
Oddly enough, the XT2/3 are larger than the EOS RP in size.

Don't listen to that faggot, its not like mft camera and lenses is going to be discontinued tomorrow. Anyway the only reason you want the G9 is for its compact very compact super telephoto lenses, better grip and ibis which the x-t30 lacks, other than that both does video more than good enough for most use and if you want a better image quality go for the x-t30.

Yup I ended up going for a 70-200 f4 IS instead. The only main size downside compared to the 70-300 DO is that I can't keep the camera with the lens attached inside of my bag, I'd have to swap it out with one of the other 2 ef lenses I carry to store it in the bag. But that's not as big of a deal as trying to fit the f2.8 would have been. I would have had to lay the f2.8 flat instead of upright in my bag, which would mean I'd have to take 1-2 fewer lenses with me, which I felt was too big of a tradeoff.

I do a lot of hiking and stills photography so the lighter weight helps when I've got film medium format in the bag and a tripod on the outside as well. Yeah it sucks having to pay $500 instead of $300 but it just seemed like a much better purchase. Just kind of funny imagining the DO retailing for more originally.

I use the cheapest 4-way rail I could find on amazon. I had to fix a tension knob on it after a while, but its been good ever since. The more expensive one you posted in the link would be far better over all for stepping and focus stacking.

The standard 16-50mm lens is really nice. I got it and initially had my concerns it wasn't really quality.
But quite honestly, its really fucking great. I always wind up using it more than my other lenses. It's not huge/heavy. Great focal distances. Sharp images.

I did a leather hand strap once for my 20D. Didn't use tutorials, just eyeballed it and played with the shape so it would fit my hand.

Didn't use it for long though. I didn't make the stitching work tough enough so a 20D with a beefier lens was putting a surprising amount of strain on the strap's stiches.

If you plan on using a heavyish gear, make sure the stitches are up to par.

I used a Df and 35mm lens as my go-to walkaround setup. I do have a cheap Fujifilm XP135 compact I keep as a sidearm. You'll probably want some sort of 24-120 zoom lens or something for travel. You can get a FF DSLR and 24-100-ish zoom for under 1k

I just got my first AF-S lens!
Such fast focus and nice overall feel to the lens.

Pretty darn neat lens for the 200 i paid for it even tough it needed some repair to be done. Mechanical problems fixed with no additional cost and it only needs new grease to be silky smooth.

It's still only Contemporary! Contemporary lenses are budget Sigmas with poor chroma and ugly bokeh rendition. Sigma releases their best lenses in their Art, Sports and Cinema lineups. Sigma makes Art apsc lenses for f and ef mounts.

At best it's strongest portrait lens on Sony e-mount, but same lens is only a mid range portrait lens on mft mount with many lenses outperforming it. This tells you all you need to know about quality of lenses on apsc e-mount.

The former is typically not worth adapting.
The latter is typically too big for people liking.

I'm glad they released the 70-350, because I wanted something like that (fuck 300/6.3 reflex with no AF and no OS). But even that was dumb when they don't yet have 11-22/2.8 or 50-135/2.8.

Canon and Sony have big dilemmas when they put components together.

Nikon still manufactures as sells AF-D and even few older lenses.

My lenses are mostly AF or AF-D with few manual focus lenses thrown in.

Why? I can get pretty much the best optical quality for quarter of the price compared to AF-S. Also these old lenses are sturdy as they get.

Focus is not as fast as AF-S, but with my D800 it's not lacking too far behind.

Not easy to check all. On lower end you have >>3622171, and similar cams. Then some bridge cameras, but they're all with zoom crappy lenses. Then Pentaxes and Olympuses that start with E-M5 II. You need sealed lenses as well.

It's what led me here during my search for a better camera.

I'd avoid if possible, the G series may be more tolerant though and (of course) the D series is fully resistant.
Rust isn't a big deal, the 316L or whatever they use to make fasteners doesn't corrode easily unless you let salt water sit on it or something.

I've never even visited this board before, but I found myself impulse buying a Nikon D3500 (just the body) with my tax return.
I've always liked old camera lenses and when I ever found them for sale cheep at Goodwill or something I drag them home not really ever knowing anything about them. So I now have a camera and these random things that connect to it, and have no idea what they really do or are for.
I've been figuring out how to operate the camera but I could really use a decent manual lens that I can use on the cheep like used >$50 on ebay. I don't care how old or if I also need an adapter to use it just something to take ok pics with.

Any info about these things or tips at all would be a help.

I recently bought a d3200 and I picked up a cheap ass lens. Tokina 28-70mm AF.
The AF won't work on bodies without shaft drive and the focus wheel is a bit autism small unfortunately, but otherwise it's an amazing lens. Very all around useful..

Otherwise thst 28mm on the cam is a good walkin round lens, middle one is a massive ass 200mm prime but slow as shit. Still pretty good for bolting onto a crop camera. Other is idk.

I'd just spend bux and get a proper Nikon dx series lens with af/mf that's made for the camera.
AF is great for walkin round stuff but kinda shit on that body.

I have an A6000 as well as an X-T3 and an X-T20. The Fujis are infinitely better. You have to believe me on this. The A6 series is fucking terrible. They are extremely unpleasant to use. My A6000 is only used for scuba diving and as a webcam. Scuba because there is a cheap case for it and if it gets wet I won’t care much, and webcam because I barely have to interact with it.
