Where to learn to correctly process pictures?

I love the work that my local lab provides and I can never match such quality.

Do you know any site, book or whatever that actually helps you to improve on this matter?

I'm not talking about youtube tutorials on how to use lightroom or whatever. I'm after general theory that can apply for both processing raws (mostly) and film negatives.

It's not something you can learn overnight it takes experience and knowing what you like.

Yes, I understand it takes practice to master it.

However, what I mean is that I'm looking for "objective" rules, grounds or principles that you can apply to the actual praxis. Something that you can use as a guideline. Like when you're learning something, you usually try to copy people that know the matter, and eventually, you extract some rules; and after knowing such rules, you can transgress them as you develop your own personal style. Those "rules" are what I'm after.
