I kinda like taking pictures of weird birds, not for any achievement or trying to taking the perfect picture, but just for fun.

Anyone else have anything like this? Where they just take pictures of certain things just for the sake of it?

I love taking nature and landscape photos sometimes, but more for the exploration and isolation, but I don’t take them often because I realize it’s mostly wasted effort because there is no money in it compared to say street, portrait, and editing work. When i’m not doing that though I really enjoy taking intimate pictures of my girlfriend and such. I would love to take a lot more those terry/boudoir pictures with various women, but I know my girlfriend would be pissy with me for it and I don’t feel like hearing her mouth. Life is suffering.

Just about all my pitchers are long exposures at night. Some light writing with friends but usually just sucking up more light than your eye catches and revealing all the distance and details that weren't actually "there" in a sense

Why is bird watching/spotting so big? What's the appeal? I mean bird are cool but there are so many people interested in it there must be something else about it. You don't see cat watching or dog watching or squirrel watching being this popular

I dont really "get it" either. Maybe its cause you usually shoot birds from far away and it feels like you are spying on them.

Same with most "wildlife" photographers that don't travel and camp to shoot actually interesting animals. It's a complete lack of creativity and lack of available subjects that they can see the photographic potential in.

As long as its alive, and in focus, to them it is a good photo. Kind of person that's also impressed with war and sports photos. Right wing boomers just suck at art.

It's the idolisation of freedom, birds are free because they can fly, war is sold as freedom fighting, sports stars are free due to their finances. Incel buck toothed yanks are told they are free, but their clear idolisation of freedom shows they do not have it, they're too slow, too poor and too stupid.

I like it cause there's like a Pokemon-esque element to it. Only certain birds show up in specific places at specific times of year, so there's usually a bit of an adventure to each one. Plus birds just always look funny so it's rewarding.
