>>3635401no i didn't imply that cropping should be done with a fixed ratio in mind. i think whatever works should be used. if you are talking about insta, you'd also need to keep in mind that your pic will be displayed as 1:1 until its full-sized, but desu at that stage i'd really rather care less
>The crop should be a composition choice before the picture is made, not after.perhaps yes, but after working with film for a while in highschool (development and print by yourself), i've came to realize that there is a lot of power to be had in post production: even something as minor as a small rotation, contrast, and zoom/crop could do wonders and change the entire tone of the picture.
alternatively: if your end-goal is to create the best end-product, then you should allow yourself to fine-tune your photos at every point in the process, even if it means that your end-product looks very different from what you envisioned. to its logical extreme, if you don't care about resolution, then you should always shoot in min zoom, which perhaps is the logic of cameras without zoom.
>>3635368well i find that its better to tell a single story that is very well constructed, then to tell a comprehensive story of the whole picture that is poorly framed
i can't find examples at the moment, but if you don't mind, there are some people that make little collages out of fragments of each shot. you might not want to lose the "of-being-a-photograph-ness" of a singularly framed shot, but i think that it could be done well if you keep an eye out for composition.
its not something i've done before personally, but ive seen some people do it quite well when applying it to their selfies on insta
>>>>3629174the thing is that its too easy to take an "okay/good picture" nowadays, the bar has been set so high
