i'd start by cropping it because my composition made the photo 90% blobby fingers

I'd start by taking a more interesting photo with a more interesting background. Come on who dude who wants to see ceiling panels??
I like the basic concept but consider your elements more.

If you want to learn you need to take experiment or look at tutorials. It seems like you're just asking for someone to edit your photo for you..
