nice/great pic but i would crop out either some of the the top white part, or all the way to the top of the sign because i find the lower half of the photo to be much more interesting.

i downloaded the pic, rotated it, and turned my screen physically to give it another look. i agree that the original cropping is great/best; its just that i almost always keep into consideration that most people use small screens.

He just said the crop is tricky, and it is. I love vertical compositions but the viewing/presentation aspect is challenging, given how human vision works and all.

didn't realize this was an established photographer but my point still stands: this needs to be a large-ish sized print to work, or it would need to be cropped for a small screened device

You're full of it. Not his best work, simplistic, lacking movement, and obviously staged, but you're criticising all the wrong things. It looks fantastic already as a thumbnail. Perfect composition and lighting. Then you open it to full glory of 127kb and 640x893, and you can already admire delightful texture. It'd work as miniature, and it'd work as natural sized print.
