ISO isnt the same for different cameras?
I have a Panasonic fz70 bridge camera and just bought a Nikon D90.
I was just testing both cameras comparing each other just for fun and then i decided to set the two cameras for the same ISO and aperture values and framed the same image in both cameras. It worth mentioning that i had 20mm on fz70 and 18mm in the D90. I was expecting the D90 to give me a faster shutter speed since it has bigger lenses and sensor, but it gave me values equals or slightly slower than the fz70. Im just trying to understand why. Both cameras set to spot metering.

M8 the shutter speed will be the same for roughly the same exposure level over the same ISO and f-stop.

Thr fz70 is f/2.8 at the wide end and your kit lens on the D90 is f/3.5, meaning a faster shutter speed on the fz70

Sensor size affects image quality, not exposure settings.
Look at the pictures you took. If you want to actually test this properly make all 3 settings identical on both cameras.

It sounds like you've misunderstood exposure settings.

If you set aperture and ISO identically on the two cameras and they're giving you about the same shutter speed, that shows you that ISO *is* the same for different cameras. That's the whole point of ISO (and aperture)--they abstract out the actual camera gear used so that the same value gives you the same exposure regardless of camera.

So the D90 won't give you a faster shutter speed with the same ISO. What it *will* give you is cleaner images at the same ISO, and compared to an FZ70, much cleaner images even at a significantly higher ISO, which means you can bump up the ISO and the shutter speed will get correspondingly faster with the same or better image quality.

(Caveat 1: ISO is a kind of fuzzy standard, so it's not exact across cameras. It can't be, really, since the camera doesn't know what brightness values any given raw processor is going to apply to any part of its data)

(Caveat 2: If you're looking at how the meter sets your shutter speed with all else being equal, you also have to understand that different meters will pick a different brightness value for a given scene. That's also not standardized)

On film, sure. That's not the case at all with digital. My X100 series cameras underexpose by one full stop at the exact same EV compared to my Nikon cameras.

See caveat #1 in my post. I addressed that.

It's also not exact across film, either, which is why you get things like Lomo saying that Metropolis is an ISO 100, 200, or 400 film, depending on wherever your heart feels like taking you, and Kodak says that to push process TMax400 (I think; I might be misremembering that one) one stop you develop it literally exactly the same as to develop it at box speed.

Either you did something else wrong, or you're witnessing different transmission levels of your lenses. Aperture is purely depth related, transmission is the one that gives acurate exposure values.

f stops have nothing to do in absolute terms with the amount of light coming through. that would be t stops.
